The biggest problem with car show judging is that everyone who brings their car thinks their car is the best...very few of them look at their cl*** and really say wow that car is way better than mine. I think the CCCA has the best judging of all. My dad is a judge for them and I actually get to be one for the Hot Rod cl*** coming up in June. They have a sheet and a group of guys for each car cl*** and truely judge which car is better than the other using a point system. Most of the shows today have the guys walk arround and pick their favorite cars in the cl*** (normally the shiniest or their favorite color or even maybe their friends car). SO if you go to shows like that then take the so called trophy with a grain of salt. and really who cares.....dont whine about it, dont *****. It does take a huge amount of work to put on the smallest of shows and trophies/judging usually isnt on the top of the list to handle. Some of the best shows are ones that dont have even have trophies. Just go, have fun. Talk to people, enjoy the cars at the show. DO you really need some ****py peice of plastic to tell you that your car is better than the guy next to you? As long as you enjoy your car thats all that should matter.

we were at a show this past sat. with the usual do not judge on the entry .had a great time looking at other cars and comparing what i saw with what i did to mine . did have a new wrinkle at this one any of the drivers/owners could buy a ticket and at the end of the show if you had the winning ticket you got the pot , was a 235 dollar pot so it made someone happy without a h***le .

If you dont have 100k in your ride I would not even put it in a show for judging. If the engine is not all billet or chrome you dont have a chance.Thats sad I'm building my truck for me not anyone else.

our club do's a sponsor trophy night at our cruise 3 good things about it 1. the sponsor buys the trophy. 2. the sponsor picks the cars. 3. the sponsor makes a donation of a $100. to the club witch we in turn make a donation to a non profit children's organisation. as for judging no way.

hey yankbuilt...this is a show being sponsered by a church, right?
tell the people in the show what is said in scriptures:
    Matthew Chapter 7 Verse 1:
Judge not, that ye be not judged.

that should put them in their places.

    later dudes

  7. Pick up every little league, pop warner, bowling, pool, dart, track trophy you see at yard sales. As the last car rolls in, announce the winners, and hand everyone in the show a trophy. A simple solution to an age old problem. Takes all the pressure off, and those hunting the trophys will be justly rewarded.

My living is based on judged cars, the ones we do. Concours events are the worst. Very political. You take a chance. Forums like CCCA, AACA, and specific marque clubs are the most reasonable and "fair" events. I have seen **** at those as well. Judging needs to have criteria to be fair. If there's judging involved then every car that meets the "standards" is a 1st place regarless of color, wheels, etc. Hot rod show judging has to be the worst possible. Politics, greed, elitist outlooks, he-who-has-the-biggest-dollar-goodies standards. Seldom seen are true merit awards, AMBR and Ridler come to mind as a couple of merit awards but again $$$$$$$$$$$ seems to gain an edge. My personal stuff, judge away man. I hope you enjoy lookin it over. That's why I'm here, to share it with my peers and check out theirs too.

Sounds a bit "Walter Mitty" don't it?

Whatever you do, don't just draw numbers out of a hat to give trophies. My father was at a show last year that did that, and all these guys were like "Whoo-hoo! MY car won a trophy!!!"

No trophies, just lots of good door prizes and a 50/50. I've gotten some cool stuff at dinky little shows that I wouldn't have attended otherwise.

If your going to do trophy's keep them simple, church choice, ladies choice, or do what they do at one car show in Vegas, give a plaque to about 5 or so 'outstanding vehicle's(Vegas gives about 60 away but man thats alot!) and be done with it. And be creative with the trophy's, make them unique to the event. That makes people want to come back to try to win one. One event I got a jacket, that was nice. I'd love to see someone do lap blankets that can be thrown in the car and at the corner have the event and win on them. Practical and useful and not collecting dust on a shelf somewhere.

I got lots of trophies when I had my Mustang and where are they now? Boxed up in the ba*****t. Time for a culture change-bought a hot rod! Now I go to shows for pure enjoyment. No wax, no tire shine, no rags & no h***les. Just park it and enjoy the day and screw the trophies. I'd much rather go to a cruise where I can take a nice long ride, have a few brewskies have another nice ride home and look back at an enjoyable day.

If you want 'impartial' you can get there from two completely different directions

    1) Professional judges
    2) Innocent bystanders picked right out of the crowd. Set somebody up 1/2 block from the show, hand them a card with criteria, turn them loose. Make sure you have a lot of them (as many as there are cars). Law of Probability says they're going to pick the 'correct' winners.

BTW, I only saw one cry-baby doll in Jefferson ;)

I know I'll probably never win a trophy, but don't care either. The best reward for me is when I'm cruising around and someone looks over and gives the thumbs up. I'm just out to have a good time.
