from Dupon Hot Hues to RM Glasurit/Carrizzma.

Thoughts? I used to use them years ago and decided to go back. Saving $1000 month on paint products.:D

we started using Rubberseal for all of our primers and Clears. holy cow! I am saving a ton, too, and these products are VERY bitchin. Heck, even thier sandpaper (which is the same brand as I buy locally) is cheaper. like ALOT cheaper. like 10 to 15 bucks a box cheaper.

  3. GOOD !

Once the dust settles from my current battle with them I will elaborate, but it is enough to say that I am about to start a rant thread about DuPont paints and how they back up there products.

Good luck with the new company.

    Johnnie.

I am a BIG fan or RM.I use it in my shop and I wouldn't have any thing else.I like the fact that I can mix most of the ground coats for all the Carrizzma line right off the machine, and buy the candy to go over top.You can also play with the formulas and make so neat stuff in the Carrizzma line.

Plus I have found there warranty to be very good.

Got nothing bad to say except Im saving $$$ with a like quality product. Dupont was good to me.
I deal direct with RM-which is kind of cool too- no 'supplier' stuck in the middle now.

I've used DuPont and PPG in the past, then for several reasons, switched to R-M about 15 years ago. Good paint! Last as well as anything I've used, reduced my spraying and finishing time, and intermixes with HOK and X-otic Colours just fine.

I would not recommend the Sherwin-Williams auto paints (They are an R-M "second line" paint) as they fade faster, and the gloss dies sooner. Not worth any savings in cost.

I am all most positive Sherwin-Williams is in no way affiliated with R-M Diamont.Limco is R-M's second line, and I think it sucks, but I also think Sherwin-Williams sucks a lot more.

Just did the exact opposite last year. We are saving costs using Dupont with better tech support and results. I used to spray Dupont Chromabase at a shop for 10 years and when I went on my own I switched to RM products for better coverage and color matching. Now I back to Dupont but only using the Chromapremier and Hot Hues line.

I was using the Hot Hues (for obvious reasons as they were the sponsor for the Right Coast and I was painting the stuff) but when RM approached me , I found they offered me something Dupont couldnt match pricewise without sacrificing quality- Love the Hot Hues stuff and my reps were great guys- used it for the past 4 years , but RM is doing right by me so Im good with it. I guess I have to be using it for a while or have issues to see how they stand up when I have a problem- but only heard good things so far.Maybe I wont HAVE any problems....
Have also used HOK in the past and PPG (my own car is painted with both of those).
Anyone out there paint with the ALSA paints? I used them on something I brought to SEMA last year and wasnt super impressed but then again- they dont even have any reps out here in MA/ New England- they SHOULD- we have shops here! :D

I'll pay more for PPG since our local supplier sucks balls... the good thing is the PPG supplier is also the HOK supplier and their service is awesome. I'll check out the RM stuff though, always looking to save when quality isn't sacrificed.

Some food for thought. Over the years we've been approached to change from one paint company to another and have always relied on feedback from other trustworthy local competitors. Your painter has more control over your material costs than the manufacturers. If he over mixes and wastes product he can eat up the savings shortly. I'm sure this isn't the case but an important issue none the less. Watch out for the weighted price increases/costs. Many paint companies/ reps have a tendency to tell you that its possible to save X% but only to find out the big discount is only on the lesser used products and the main stay materials are actually priced higher. The direct deals with the manufacturer are relatively new ground. SW started this a couple of years ago around here and its been met with mixed responses. You still need your local paint supplier. You cant just shut him off and expect him to service you like before. He needs to make a fair profit just like you. Remember they are being squeezed on both sides also. I'd also ask a question of the supplier , Why wasn't he able to trim your paint expense or help in minimizing usage? I'm only bringing this point up because it seems loyalty to a vendor, supplier , customer or business isnt what it used to be . It seems the only thing that matters in todays world is price.

price isnt the only thing with me by far. The quality HAS to be there for what I produce. 2nd rate just isnt good enough- my paitn products need to be spectacular. PERIOD. I also have to have good customer servuce for when I call- either to order or if I have questions. If I dont get that I dont care WHO or WHAT products they are.
So far so good with the RM stuff. My RM rep (I dont buy from him but he is there for help) came to my open house- first time in 4 years Ive had a rep come by for something other than their job.
THAT meant a lot to me.
