To you Model A guys who do you recommend buying fenders from? My original fenders are not in good enough condition for me to put on my car, and the amount of money i would have to put into them to make them presentable, would be over the cost of buying re-pro's who do you use and why? I have heard Brookville don't fit right ..dont have them so i cant say I haven't heard anything about Snyders antique auto's fenders..? any others out there? im looking for all 4 fenders. fronts and rears. for the record they will go on a 1928 Tudor sedan thanks in advance for your help
I am in the same position as you are I have a 29 sedan that has maybe one usable rear fender and the repops are really expensive. Going to Texas this friday to the Pate swapmeet hoping somebody will have some in decent shape and not try to sell them as gold. Heard alot of stories about repops needing alot of work to make fit good. I hope you get some feedback on this.
If you know anyone in your local Model A club (mafca.com) ask them for some copies of the Restorer magazine. There are usually some classifieds with fenders for sale.
I do have an elderly friend in Florida with a 31 Tudor i should let him know what im looking for , he has buddies that are into the resoration thing. who knows maybe some ol chap may have a few hangin' in the garage.. yeah right! Wish in one hand shit in the other and see what hand fills up first..
brookville gets theirs from gas lite from what i was told.....they advertise in the nsra street scene mag..... located in ohio too . brandon
all four fenders on my `28 tudor are steel from gaslight....they took a small amount of work to make them fit. that was 13 years ago , so i have no idea of the quality now
36-3 window. What kind of "work" did you have to do to make them fit? Is the steel thickness close to original? after 13 years how do they look, any issues? cracks?
I got original fenders for my truck from a guy who has been in the business for years. What he got me were absolutely excellent. He goes by "T,A & V-8 Cars & Parts" His name is Doug Born He is in Windsor, CO (970) 686-2926 He is usually at Carlisle, so if you don't get him on the phone, that's probably where he is.
where the front fenders meet the running boards needed a little massaging..the rears were ok. of course you have to drill all the mounting holes. i think they are made of 18 gauge? they are holding up fine , i'm glad i spent the money for them and didn't go glass
I have a set of front fenders from a coupe project I won't be using. PM if you are interested and I can send you pic's.
buy original fenders pry the extra cash out of your wallet and buy nice ones repo fenders are ok but never fit like originals but thats what makes them repos tk
Tub in da dirt..I would love to find a nice straight set of originals...for sure. Just dont need the "gold plated" ones if you get my drift. mosimpson you got a PM BTW brookville dont have steel rear fenders (for a tudor)..suck! why would any one go to the trouble of buying all steel fronts all steel running boards all steel aprons to go and buy glass rear fenders? what are they smoking?at least thats what they were suggesting to me. oh the humanity
PumpGasRatVette..thanks alot for the name and number, I gave him a shout..he was milling around in Texas..said to give him a shout in 2 weeks..
Best bet is looking for a street rodder or hot rodder with a car they are hot roddin' cuz they get rid of that stuff and usually cheaper.
I bought a set of four from Gaslight for a '31 Coupe that I did in the early 1980's. The rears fit fine, but the fronts needed a little TLC where it met the running board and splash apron. Also, there are little spacers that go between the fender and brace at the outside edge. Back then you could tell when a guy had repop fenders because it would "kink" the fenders when they tightened the bolts. I copied the originals from an old fender and made a set from stainless. The fenders fit correctly with the spacers installed. I see in the model A parts catalogs where the spacers are available now cheap. Another one of those areas where it's easier to do something now than it was 20+ years ago!
The Hot Rod Grille I know what your talking about on the spacers..I have I think 2 of them for the front fenders. kinda like a wing shaped washer that goes into the bead of the fender, so it doesnt get smashed when you tighten the out side bolt. Mine are OEM off the original set of fenders. I knew they were important to putting it back togeather correctly so ive got them in my parts box.. Thanks for mentioning them
