hey all, started tearing down this 51 styleline that I got a little while ago. Man i can't believe the crap that's been hiding in this thing. my 3 month "fixer-upper" has now turned into a year long frame up resto. here's some pics of the trouble that I've unearthed since I started... I'll put more up when I find more. Which I'm sure I will. wish me luck fixing this mess... http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j299/iceclymbrr/uh%20oh/ there's the link to the rest of the pics. I'm going to beat him with a stinger and a chipping hammer
Wow...you got some work ahead of you! Thats ok, it will be worth it when its done! Those motor mounts rule!
my truck was the same way went out and bought all of my paint and started sanding on the pass side ang guess what looked like it got hit by a fucking simi had an inch of bondo fuck
Dude, that sucks, but heres the cool thing. You didnt just look at it and say, "...cool", and drive it like that. You see it, and youre addressing it, and Im sure itll be a way sweet ride. Its nothing that cant be reversed. Do the structual stuff first so you can at least drive it this summer while youre tackling the body work! Good luck man!
And I thought I couldn't weld very well !! Those make mine look like masterpieces (and I do suck at welding)
Monster: I actually did drive it. Road Trip it wasn't until I got her home and got repairs underway. Someone was looking out for me. as for the mounts... well I'm not sure they're available in bulk, but if you're really after them I know where you can get a set cheap. HAHAHHAA I still haven't taken pics of the transmission cross member. you're all just going to plain shit. it makes 1/2 done's surprise look stellar by comparison. I'm a millwright by trade, with a lot of welding in my pocket, both MIG and Stick so I got lucky there. Anyone know a good place to get my floor pans that won't cost me an arm and a leg? btw... the guest password for the photobucket pics is BwayBaby. get ready to shake your head a lot D
my bad. but when you live in canada, and the car is in san francisco, I talked with the guy for quite a bit, and honestly thought I could trust him. Asked all the right questions and got stroked big time. Lesson learned on my part.... trust no one when it comes to buying a car. Hard lesson for me... but one I won't forget
Your car was built by Grog the caveman. Steel and flint struck together to give it that caveman appearence. This is way too retro.
you mean those welds arent good? damn... coulda fooled me reminds me of the saying "fukit... itll hold"
Well, keep in mind, if he was proud of his work, he probably was telling you the truth...he believed in it...and hell, you took a road trip with it, so it held up - in his mind maybe he had no reason to doubt his workmanship. Yeah, it looks scary, but keep in mind some don't know any better...I wouldn't write him off, I'd just re-do it to my liking. I'm sure if I sold my car, someone else would have a 'better way' of doing (or undoing) something I did... The cost of buying a used car I suppose... I'll admit thought, the inch of filler is a bit...scary...
Yeah, that's a tough hop. Caveat emptor. From my reading it appears most members here would not finish a car that way.
Hell yeah. We can send you a set from NZ. Costs extra for the ones I weld with my eyes closed though.
At least the top of it is original right? My Fleetline the one side was patched with another quarter. Apparently from a 4-door, as there's a 3-inch gap where the door seam would be. Stuck over the original with the top held down by sheet metal screws intended to be hidden by the stainless band that wraps around the quarter on the 49-50's. The filler is a mix of lead AND bondo. The wheel arches don't match side to side and niether one would take a factory fender skirt. I bought it anyways, not caring, because it looks mostly ok until you get up close, and the idea was just to have fun with it and if it gets a parking lot ding or something, who cares.
hey you're in WIndsor??!!! I grew up in Rawdon Hills. and it wasn't Ottawa Valley, it was freakin Ohio. 2bridges yeah man looks like you've got some work ahead of you too. rusty so tell me then what happened with her? fix it up? go as is?
dang!!!! I have never seen crafstmanship on this high of a level! that bodywork is amazing! ouch. better luck next time man.
