He josh how old are you and did you know any of the super mod drivers or sprint drivers from the jackson michigan area? My dad was a real good friend of Gordy Johncock and knew a few others from south of here that raced at jackson motor Speedway way back when.. We just lost another old timer last week Art Braithwaite .. Dad also knew Rollie Beale too. I saw Rollie at the old timers reunion here last october.. He is great guy.. Just curious and i love this thread. I even have my kids looking at it as they kinda take after me and my old man .. Big time race fans.. But we get itchy when we see fenders :)... Im still planning on making it to Winchester next weekend for the vogler memorial weather permitting and we also planning gas city for USAC on saturday night if we can.. I sure wish this weather would straighten out I can see another cold and wet little 500 weekend also !

    Josh,
back in the late 80's when I was full time on a fuel car deal we got rained out at Bristol (TN). To fill in some time we went racing with Shirl Greer's kids at an indoor r/c dirt oval in the Bristol/Kingsport area. That night all of the cars were battery powered but it was a bunch of fun. I actually purchased a car and had Van Greer drive it for me. We won the feature but were disqualified at post race tech as the motor drew too many amps. The track was in a steel industrial building pretty much in the middle of nowhere ( at least for a foreigner like me<G>).

    Josh,

I wish I had known about this earlier. I would love to have made it but we already have plans for Saturday. Sounds like a blast. Is the twin cities race a pick up race for them since the burg is not completed yet?

I will be calling you soon, I need to talk to you about a couple things.

jus junk, hey you better keep an eye on the weather this weekend for Gas City and Winchester, they are calling for ran starting Friday afternoon. I think it is going to be a washout for Gas City. It's too bad too USAC two nights, and Gas city has great track. It has been in the 70's all week, I hope we'll get one day atleast.

This is a pic of my grandfather, Ed Barnett (winner of the Oakland Speedway 500 miler in 1941) and Bill Sheffler at Oakland Stadium. Bill crowded Ed into the wall, and he actually came down right-side up!
This photo is compliments of Don Radbruch (Rest in Peace, buddy!)

  26. By (popular) demand, I think I've shrunk some of the photos of my 1932 "Big Car" so they'll fit this site. Enjoy! Questions welcomed.

'Roy and JohnnyFast, 'That's exactly what I thought when I saw the photo. Vuky, in a rare Doug Caruthers, Don Edmunds built sprint car and Mike Mosely in A.J. Watson's Ford DOHC sprinter. I'd like to ad, I'm pretty sure its a day show at the old Irwindale track, (San Gabriel Valley Speedway, aka Speedway 605) that also hosted the 1975 USAC Turkey Night Grand Prix won by Mel Kenyon. Chris Econamaki referred to Mel's car as being powered by a SESCO engine "shoe-horned" into a VW chassis. Incidentally, Vuky won the race that day. (Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)

The 1975 Turkey Night race at 605 speedway, Tommy Astone was leading the race in my dad's car and was lapping a car for at least the 2nd time and spun, but that wasn't as bad as when he led 99 3/4 laps at the Hut Hundred and got passed coming off the 4th turn on the last lap by Bill Engelhart. Tommy should have made it to Indy he was actually a great driver even though I am posting about 2 races he didn't win
