I have intake gaskets from a 1956 poly 331, they line right up on 1953 hemi heads for a 331- just ports are bigger I have both intake manifold side by side and it looks like mounting surface and intake/water holes are exactly the same the only "possible" differnce I can see, which is barely discernable and may be an optical illusion, is the mounting surface angle on the heads/intake interface, may be "slightly" different angle- so slight as to be barely noticeable by eye or are these interchangeable ? I realize the DODGE hemi/poly intakes do interchange, it makes no sense why the CHRYSLER intakes would not also interchange between poly/hemi 301-331-354 has anyone tried it ?
The Chrysler intake manifolds, 301-331-354-392, Hemi and poly, will all interchange. The bolt pattern did not change. For the 392, the cylinder head was modified when the deck height changed so the intake will fit the others. If you swap 392 heads onto another engine then there is no proper intake. The 51-53 331 intake will physically interchange with the later units, however, the ports are quite small by comparison and the 51-54 intake manifold also incorporates the thermostat assembly.
Gary, THAT is a passel of GREAT info, man! So, e.g., a 354 Poly intake would fit fine on a 392, am I right? It's also cool that they modified the 392 head design to compensate for the raised block! (That's something DeSoto engineers did NOT do when going to the RB, and it negates a lot of parts interchanging from or to the 270 and 291.)
Yes, the Spitfire intake fits on the 392, but you must use the 392 gasket. ...Use caution when using the 'RB' designation. it most generally refers to the wedge engines; 413-426-440 (and yes, the 59 383). .
OOPS! Yeah, Gary, I typed that too fast BEFORE PUTTING BRAIN IN GEAR!!!! I sure don't want to be responsible for getting bogus info into circulation, as it can't be recalled, if you know what I mean. I should have said high-deck or about anything else. THANKS FOR THE CATCH, MAN!!!
