Is it my imagination or does it seem like a lot of really nice cars are 4-Sale lately

  1. I've been noticing quite a few nice rides up for sale lately. Is it that the cars are bringing the right amount of money "right now" and the owners are turning them or is it a sign of something bigger?

This one is not mine... but I sure as hell wish it was. Too bad they don't take souls in trade on hot rods.

****... I almost forgot... I was just asking about this car a few weeks ago and even bought the back-issued copy of Rod & Kulture of it... I'm thumbing the the bay the other night and there it is??? Wild!!!

This is a worthless thread, but the Economy is in the ****ter and the first thing to go will be people who are over-leveraged selling their toys.

Can't make your mortage payment? Sell that 80k Hot-rod you bought w/ the refinance.

A lot of cars are going to Europe due to the low dollar against the Euro. A friend just sold an A roadster to a european and he had 2 or 3 other guys from that neck of the woods in line if the first guy bailed. One of the keys seems to be the use of "Original Ford Parts". Reproduction stuff (in large quan***ies) seems to turn those folks off. They want the real original cars/parts.

I believe that there MAY be a good bit of truth in the above statement ;)
I do not believe the economy is in bad shape but the media wants folks to think it is. Some folks are hurting and hurting pretty bad. Some of the ' Johnny come lately ' rodders and a few others who have over spent and borrowed too much counting on the " good times " to last forever are bailing out. High fuel prices are making folks nervous. This same thing happened in the 70's when fuel went up. Lots of cool muscle cars and neat V8's were sold for pennies on the dollar of their previous value. I think some of that is happening today.

It has already happened in the Harley world. Folks bailing out. The price has gone soft on 2 to 4 year old Harleys ... something that used to hold their value for years.

I am just waiting for the 32 Fords to do the same thing. When they get reasonable ( if they ever do ;) ) I am ready to buy a couple ... :D

I think it's just the fact that there is more interest in our hobby then there was ten years ago, and that just plain makes more cars and more for sale so people can build the next toy. I'm sure there are also people selling because of financial reasons but it's not like we are in a depression and everyone is poor, I think people are blowing up this recession thing to much.

Deuce has it right. A little perspective goes a long way. Rods will maintain value to anyone who finds them meaningful. The kewl-schtik will lose it's appeal and be replaced by the medias' next culture thang. It is hard to answer the original post's question, if the $'s value decreases, then might want to buy now. It is always good to build, drive and enjoy.

  11. Tell me about it... Although I've owned this bike for nearly 20 years. It'll look nice in my casket with me... wouldn't you agree?

Well kids being the fact that in the manufacturing business and we just lost another job and im hearing rumors of other jobs going to of all places India ...ya the economy does **** and it ****s a lot. How the hell do we keep people working in this country if we send all the **** to other countries. Its not just happening here where I work its all over.. So for that very reason people are loosing jobs or taking pay cuts and **** has to go. I dont agree that were not in a recession I believe we are. The news media just makes it worse but things aint so good out there right now.. If your not worried about your job and you have plenty of money now is the time to buy. Kinda screws me on selling my roadster with all the good deals out there but it still may sell and if not no big deal.. Ill wait till prices go up again.........

There have been a lot of nice cars for sale lately. Some of them have even been in my price range! LOL

If I were closer to ths T roadster pickup I'd go look at it. But, as usualy, it's in California and I'm in Colorado.Says no ***le, but does run, stock model A ch***is and running gear. 35 wire wheels and only $5,600 obo.

I think there is a combination of things. The economy has people worried, gas prices, food prices and some cars are being sold for good money so some people figure they might as well sell now.

Without wanting to start a hate thread, stop paying people $40/hour to work an ***embly line. Stop forcing union labor and union wages on companies. The day of the US monopoly is over and we're gonna have to **** it up and compete again.

Find me one ***embly line worker that makes $40 hr.
How about we start paying living wages to our workers? What with the cost of gas hitting $4 dollars a gallon everywhere and I'm sure $5 will be soon to follow.
How about we stop selling out our workers, their jobs, their famillies and our means of making a living to third world countries with little or no worker rights in the almighty quest to fatten their already bursting wallets?

How about you learn what the hell you talking about before you open your mouth?
Ameriacn people have become way to complacent. They raise the cost of rice in India and people riot in the streets because the know it's ********. We just shrug and eat it. We deserve everything we get because we let our own countrymen and goverment do it to us without so much as a whimper.

    You sound like MANAGEMENT!
At least the guys on the ***embly line are DOING something to make the company money, producing a product.
Not like the almost useless CEO's who get MILLION dollar buyouts when they leave the company, whether they did good for the company, or whether they sent it down the tubes!

  19. Neither do I... but...

What exactly do you do for a living?... are you quite possibly overpayed?... aren't many Americans overpayed compared to the world marketplace for the job they perform each and every day?... why is it that the wages of the U.S. manufacturing worker has been so greatly singled out?... I've seen many people throughout my life that get paid far greater than their worth in their jobs... haven't you? I'm so sick and tired of watching this nation flush itself down the toilet each and every day it makes me want to puke... all in the name of personal greed... or as some call it... Globalization.

JDHolmes, You've struck a chord and a true one. Wages in this country are a contributing factor to what we are experiencing today.
I know two individuals (both janitors for GM) who have homes that are less than 20 years old paid for. Both have new cars and trade off buying a new car every other year and buy a new pickup the alternate year. Both have cabins in northern Michigan. Both have a garage full of motorcycles and snow machines. One has a big inboard boat and the other is into drag racing. These guys are JANITORS, one with a GED and the other just barely graduated high school (2 years as a senior).
You might suspect I'm not a union fan but that's a story for another time. The old saying "the chickens have come home to roost" is applicable to what we're experiencing in the country today. I'll quit before I tell you how I really feel.

  22. It sounds like "jealous" to me?

Look on the shiny side of the nickle... some brainiac with an MBA in upper management, a CEO and the BOD approved those contracts with those workers. Did their heads roll? What makes them so overly valued. Have you seen the cars coming out of Detroit recently? It makes me cringe to think that kids today find Honda's and Toyota's visually appealing. Who was the idiot at GM that didn't do a retro '55, '56 & '57 Chevy on their 50th anniversy? I've worked in the auto industry for well over 20 years... and if the shareholders put me in charge the first thing I'd do is fire anyone that has never turned a wrench in his life... that's another problem with America... far too many bean counters and not enough bean pickers.

Your right, we are all way to over paid. We should just collect our bowl of rice a day and be happy.

  26. Who wants to gawk at this car all day long with me?
(sorry this post went all politico... I guess it's a sign of the times)

"Today's managers have apparently forgotten the lesson taught by Henry Ford, dean of American capitalism. He discovered that by paying his auto workers the princely sum of $5 a day (to the dismay of the rest of the industry), it became possible for them to buy Ford cars. High wages, in the end, produce high profits."

Maybe this can be dragged back into the Rod realm?
Fuel and heat have gone skyward this past year. It strikes me that this means transport cost will rise as well. Soooo...maybe the local guy/gal who knows how to make things is able to compete on a slightly leveled playing field? If you can provide "smithing" as in blacksmithing (welding, machining, casting, fabricating)...of any needed item, then suddenly by being next door or around the corner, your shop's "product" looks better than Taiwan's.

It is a shame when some people can make a decent living and pay for their house and take care of their families, a crying shame and it is bringing us all down. If we could just stop all the janitors and other low life s*** in this country from making too much money, it would solve all of our problems and the rest of us decent people wouldn't be forced to stop driving our Hummers around and having to sell our $80K hot rods.

On topic it though, those (2) cars on ebay rock! I like both, but the green '31 is hot.
