Looking at picking up a 89 s-10 T-5 to replace my s-10 T-4 (4 speed). the tranny i'm looking at has a electric speedo, however my T4 has a cable speedo. Would i be able to put the T4's tail shaft into the T5, and use its gear driven speedo? or would there be more involved?!? already saw a few posts with the conversion boxes which would cost more than what i'm paying for the tranny to begin with, so not an option.

    tks!

This is just a thought, I could be totally wrong. My t-5 in my 86 stang uses a mechanical speedo. I don't know how much difference there is in the tailshaft housings between the two but I was thinking maybe you could use a speedo gear and cable setup off of something like that. Best I remember the end that goes into the trans is only like $20. Like I said, it's just an idea.

T4 tailshaft will not fit - there is a bulge at the lower right of the T5 tailshaft - this is where 5th gear lives - T4 doesn't have it.

Get in touch with 'snarl' here - PM him - apparently, he's had some success converting some electronics to mechanical...
