OK, I am not asking for advice on how to deal with scammers, but could any of you from the UK tell me if this is how people speak there? I just don't want to be rude and blow off a sincere rodder from another country. He did say he would wait for the check to clear (which I won't take anyway) but it's that (red flag) scammer thing where they can't say the name of the "item" for some reason. Here is the email; Thanks for the prompt response..I'm greatly appreciate your effort in getting back to me. Well,i like the item and i`ve developed an interest in the immediate purchase, and ready to make payment right away. As i don't want to lose this item for anyone else, because i have something like this for my first son in UK before which served him for so long.. I shall be paying you securely with a Payable Certified Check and will wait till it clears your bank before the shipment,ok. My aim is to buy the item for my son also, in United Kingdom....Please, i need to be sure that the item will be shipped to him, as soon as you receive payment and cleared your bank..Because i may be out of town anytime from now on a business trip....I shall forward my son's information to you as soon as you receive the payment check and cleared in your bank...I await your prompt response including your full NAME, CONTACT ADDRESS and your PHONE NUMBER so that i can mail the payment to you ASAP. Best Regards... Kevin Buckmaster.
FWIW, this is my reply to that email: You have all the information you need for right now, I am a very busy man so you must refer to the exact item you are interested in every time we email, and also speak car guy talk and not some scammer vague dialog which is what you sound like now. If you are sincere then I appologize for being abrupt but we have so many scammers wasting our time nowdays. Tell me about the project you are working on with your son. Also I will talk to my bank on the process for direct transfer, no checks from other countrys or mailed payments. Paypal is fine too.
Willy, I got an e-mail very similar to that about a week ago re: a boat I had for sale on Craigslist,(sight unseen). It had the same shitty grammar, etc. I replied telling him I needed a USPS money order or paypal, and never heard any more from the guy. It's really a shame there are people trying to scam us , usually from another continent....Ole Pork
It can take up to two weeks to find out the check is no good. Don't be in a hurry to spend or it'l bite ya.
SCAMMER!! I work with people overseas all the time for my job and the vague reference, "for my son", "going to be on business trip" (so you can't contact him) all scream scammer. Even if his English isn't perfect, anyone truly interested would be more specific. Because we are alert to Nigerian scams, these guys are either passing it off to someone in the UK or bouncing it through an ISP in the UK. What's the .com ending on his e-mail? \ 51FourDoor
It sounds like a scam to me, the grammer is terrible even for an email and he repeats too many details. I'm surprised he didn't ask for your account numbers so he can 'send it directly.'
"Item" what "Item" who's to say you are selling alot of "Items" Beware...Ask for secured only funds and see how interested he is than.
I must say, you haave the makings of a good scam there. I'm no expert, but I wouldn't take the deal, Sorry.
Classic scam, you can smell it a mile away. dont ever accept checks, or even cashiers checks. they all can be forged easily, and once you cash them they can get your account numbers and drain your bank account overnite, then they're gone. nothing you can do at that point.
I know the schooling system is going to hell in a hand cart here in dear old blighty but I would bet my last £5 that the closest that guy has been to the UK has been to use the translate to english function on Google.... Hate to repeat but in my mind that is a scam. If I can be of any help here in the UK let me know. P.
i have had several scams like that roll across my desk. usually for jewelry or something high dollar, i would ignore it if i was you. its not going to cost you anything more to have your "item" sit there a little longer for a legitimate offer to come around. also stay away from the overseas thing if you can, not saying that they are bad people or anything (lord knows half of my business is overseas) but you will eliminate a lot of possible scams.
SCAM!!!! Do not give them any information, after your reply I guarantee you won't hear any more from them.
i just recieved a check for $2500 dollars off someone on craigslist that was indenity theft.... if they cant take it in real like... you take it from them off the internet... theives everywhere
definately wreaks of scam... the persons writing is written in very broken english, speaking from experience more often that not if it was a person of non english speaking country theyd give you some kinda of heads up that that is the case and there english isnt flash, id give it a miss
Take the check, wait for it to clear, wait two more weeks and them mail him half a role of toilet paper. "Item" maybe UK slang for toilet paper.
I've received the same type of emails from the egay site. People are interested in my "item" and "wish to purchase it". Problem was, I didn't have anything listed on egay. What is the "item" why so secret? With 300 million people in the USA one would think that a domestic deal could be had. Sometimes following the all mighty dollar will get you in big trouble.
We seem to have several members here on the HAMB who live in the United Kingdom... Maybe one of them would be willing to "check out" the buyer for you
Unless you think you are going to have a hard time selling the "item", why are you even considering this?! It has scam written all over it!!! It looks like you are trying to talk yourself into it. You've already wasted too much time on it. I've gotten several of these and the delete key is your best option. Turn the other way and run!
they guy in england should give you his telepohne cause launguage is the same, bad grammer, most hambers are guilty of that, but if your not sure ask the guy about his his car or sons car car like to brag about there cars. but i have to say that just cause the customer is overseas does not make a crook automaticly, we have lots of forgien customers and the nice thing about them they dont cry about pricing. overseas guys do take longer to repy and to make a deal, there is also western union worldwide and it is tracable .
I don't know what he's trying to buy. I just wanted to make sure my gut feeling was right. I mean if he is in some remote area and needs parts it would be neighborly to help. I just though maybe someone from the UK would pipe in and say "Oh, yeah, old Robinson? He is an ok dude, I know him." I don't speak that language very well either, I watch British movies because I can't understand a word they say, no offense. Fawlty Towers and Are You Being Served I can understand tho.
It's really funny how these foreigners simply don't understand that knowing how to lie in your own language to a person who doesn't wear shoes doesn't work quite as well over here. "I really want to buy your ITEM. Is it a good ITEM? How much will it cost to ship the ITEM?"
Place an ad on the Nash Car Clab of America site and you will be guaranteed to receive 25 emails just like yours in the first week. They have a warning on their site that covers this issue - you might want to read it. I've got a few of these emails where they ask for "photo of item". I always send a picture of my toilet and request a money order for $2500. I never get a reply. Damn - I could use a new toilet. However, I am planning to retire on the money I make by helping to clear $1,000,000 through a US bank for some dying Nigerian doctor. Not.
