If a car was bought in california then taken to reno nevada to register and the car has 2 years unpaid registration in california will you have to pay that before registering in nevada?
indiana if you buy a car and dont register it within 30 days you have to pay a late fee. and if you sit on it and dont ***le it ,you have to pay a fee. but it it isnt a lot.
in this instance bill of sale would be saturday, registration in the next state the following monday. would the previous owners unpaid registration carry over into the next state and the new owner would have to pay the 2 years back registration in CA before registering it in NV
Generally, state x does not give a rat's *** about whether you kept the registration current in state y-- at least in this area. Your mileage may vary.
Sorry, generally don't apply, here. We're talking CALIFORNICATE, here.Remember Prop13, I think it was, where the voters p***ed an initiative, (can't be overturned by the state senate)for NO property tax? The state responded by taxing everything, including "Looking at me in a funny way".....well, practically. One of the laws they p***ed says that you can't have a car, sitting for year after year, not being driven on California roads, and so not registered. The fees keep accrueing, and if you sell it, they go with the car. When you try to ***le it, the state your in, Nevada in this case, (but this happened to me with my 89 Camaro, that 5 years ago had 15,000 miles on it) Anyway, the state your in has to call Cal. state DMV, and get them to clear it. This California won't do, until the fees are paid. 3-5 letters back and forth, and several mos. later, they settled for 1/2. which was still in the 250-350 range (Dollars). Oh, by the way, the car was FREE! Its my daily driver now, with 76,00 original miles. It sat a loooooong time, in Calif., and away from the salt air, in the desert. Jim
Before I would give those lowcalss ***hats in california government a DIME I would do the missing ***le thing and use the bill of sale in a FRIENDLY state. They tried that **** on me when I was given my Mom's Mortor home. They got NUTHIN from me. OR MOM. The nastygram I got form them DEMANDED like $700 dollars in back fees. Georgia registered my ***le with no issues. Glenn
In California, you must submit a "Statement of Fact" that the vehicle wasn't driven for the 2 years it wasn't registered, under penalty of perjury. Usually, this will suffice.
I don't believe Nevada cares where the car came from as long as you have proof of ownership and register it in a timely manner
I relocated to Reno, NV from California. I had a '73 Colman trailer that was a couple years behind in Cali and all it cost was Nevada fees, at the time it was $30/$40 bucks.
What the others said. Shouldn't matter to you. That is the seller's problem, if it's really a problem. Around here, if you fail to register, you can't drive it, legally, until you re-register. The fees don't "pile up" year after year...
