From my experience a dose of injection cleaner periodically is just what the doctor ordered. Seems keeping them clean is a big part of having them run well. DUH!!! Frank
i had problems with this type cleaners on my mercedes 350slc. it has got bosch k jetronic... it has made hesitation on revving and poor acceleration.
i've used Techron in the past....it is suggested be used by some car companies via tsb's......I've also used a product from Nissan that is mixed with 1/2 gallon of fuel and plumbed into the injector loop, byp***ing the system on the auto.....you can audibly here the moment the spray pattern of the injectors improves........short answer is yes, it works
I run a fuel conditioner in my cars, both old and new. I use one called FP60 that keeps the fuel pump and injectors clean and lubed on my late-model FI cars. It also keeps the combustion chambers and the intake tract clean. FP60: http://www.lcdinc.com/products_fuel_power.php Rather than clean it once in a while with a harsher cleaner, it cleans all the time. It costs about 6 cents per gallon to treat your fuel, not a lot of added cost with gas up to the $3.50 to $4.00 range now. Also helps keep the fuel fresh on cars that sit for a while, like many old cars that don't get driven daily. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
Good fuel system cleaner can work well for preventive maintenance and can take care of some minor problems such as soft carbon on the valves and deposits on the tip of injectors that can cause a bad spray pattern and a uneven injector flow. It can even be used on carburated vehicals. If you drive your car on a regular bases I usually recommend using some type of product the same time you do your oil change, it's just easier to remember that way. Remember you get what you pay for. Our company had a lab in Long Beach CA test a lot of the popular brands and they found that a lot of them contain acetone and alcohol, that can be harsh on rubber fuel lines and seals. We then had our product designed to be more of a detergent for your fuel system , not a harsh chemical. Our product is called F.S.M. it stands for "fuel system maintenance " 1 bottle of F.S.M. can treat a whole tank. It sells for $9.95 a bottle. This is for gas vehicles only. We do have a product for diesel engines if you should need it. If you have any questions let me know. http://www.doctorinjector.net If you have bigger problems with your fuel injectors, or you have a rebuilt engine, why not have your injectors ultrasonically cleaned and flowed. You wouldn't put old spark plugs in a new motor or install an old dirty carb, so why not have your fuel injectors cleaned . If you have any questions let me know or if you would like to see pictures of our procedure for off car fuel injection cleaning and flowing , check out our web site. We can clean and flow all gas injectors even injectors for propane powered engines .Electronic, mechanical, we even rebuild throttle body's and vortec units.

YES..... As has been said, more a preven***ive. I use a bottle of Lucas FI cleaner in my cars and bikes every oil change. I have a Yamaha R1 with 99,**x miles on it. The back side of the valves, the ports are still clean and shiny....never had injector problems (require cleaning..!). So yea....worth every penny. Mike
It seem like the $4 and $5 a bottle stuff is hardly worth the bother. GM Fuel System Cleaner seems to be a bit more concentrated and generally does a better job. It's also more spendy (about $24 list) but you may only need to use it once or twice a year. Keep hearing rumors that it's repackaged Techron. The use of "Top Tier" fuels should also help keep things cleaner as well. http://www.toptiergas.com/
