This weekend is the all you can throw away garbage weekend in Glen Ellyn. This means you can throw away anything at no extra charge. We go out every time to find treasures. Usually it is old furniture and lawn and garden items. This year was mainly garbage, I mean junk. After riding around for about three hours with only a a few little finds we pull up in front of a house with a fairly large pile-o-**** in front. As I stop something catches my wife Denise's and my eye. Its metal, its old, and its free! I couldn't get out of the car fast enough. I grab it up and sure enough it is. An NOS Thermador. This thing has never been on a car. It is almost perfect condition. I have been keeping a lookout for one of these for the '51 for awhile. I still can't believe it. I have been picking for as long as I can remember and this is probably the best thing I have found, short of the lathe I found years ago.

    Attaboy Josh!
Those things are great arent they?
You only find them in good shape or not at all?
Check your drawstring on the vent cylinder-they tend to dry-rot.
    Enjoy your new A/C unit!

    A lathe is definitely better.

  8. That is pretty cool.

Around here any piece of metal that is 5 feet or less from the street gets ******ed up in a hurry. Even little kids walking home from school will carry a washer away..

Cool. Is that one of the deals where you pack it with dry ice and drive fast? I've been looking for info on early automotive air conditioning.

I remember when I was a kid on a trip to Hot Arizona with my dad in our 55 Buick, A car went by with one of those Coolers on it and I asked him what it was, and he said that's Cheap A/C.... and I said, then we must have the even cheaper one....He laughed.

I remember lot's of road trips to Az with the windows down to stay cool... Umm.. I mean Hot.
Then when we did get A/C on our cars we didn't use it that much, only when it was real hot. A lot of people were that way when A/C first came out..... It's like we didn't have it for so long that we had to get used to the idea or something ?
    Funny stuff thinking back.

To Stizzealth. Put a metal cooler in your bed or trunk. run two heater hoses to it along the framerails. Plumb a 12v pump. Attach it to a trans cooler with fan under dash.Vintage air. Put beverages in cooler. Don't forget stop**** to let water out.You read it here first.........

LOL, great find, but I can see why it's in the trash up there. A swamp cooler in No. Ill. is as useful as a heater in Jamaica -- way too humid. PS I grew up in G.E., nice town.
