Sounds fishy! I wouldn't sell to anyone who doesn't come and look at my stuff and handles the transaction in person....

  3. I would not go for western union either. I think Ebay even says not to do it.

I have sold plenty of stuff to guys in the UK and every where else. If they do not want to give you a contact phone # and address, full name, etc, it could be BS.

Theres alot of scammers still trying, but they are so obvious, it would take an IQ of a retarded goldfish to to get hooked.

If you are not comfortable, get more positive info from the buyer, or just p***.

Well why dont you go ask the 20 or so HAMBers I have dealt with, none of which I have met due to geograghy.

Just take some precautions and dont send anything until you have the cash. The cheapest and easiest way with complete safety is go open a new bank account and give the buyer all the info he requires. Once you have receieved the funds via international wire transfer, withdraw from that account and close it, then send the car. Pretty simple.

Im more worried about getting ripped off from sellers.... which is based on being in the hole $14K - still on a bad deal - from a US seller.

I just bought a 29 sedan from the sales ads on here - wired the money in full thru to the seller in CA and waited for the ship to arrive in UK several weeks later.

Western Union is really not recommended over here either (even signs in some banks and post-offices)

Ask him to call you so you can give the bank details to the guy direct.

But anyway, dont let the car get collected till you receive full payment so the risk is more on the buyer's side.

It can be safe to sell overseas if you take some precautions. Saying that a buyer must be there in person and hand you cash is pretty closed minded. I live in a very rural area and most of what I buy and sell is not face to face.

I sold a five window coupe to a guy in England, he sent a cashiers check and didnt have a problem with waiting until it cleared. If the guy doesn't have a problem with waiting until you know 100% that you have the cash in your account then I don't see a problem with it.

If you have your truck in one hand and cash in the other , its a good deal. Just don't turn lose of your truck until you are happy with the deal!!!!!!!!

  14. Why the hate for us Brits huh?

Why not call the guy, or email him, rather than posting it on here....talk to the guy & explain your concerns. And tell him HE has to arrange shipping. If the guy is on the up & up, he will have no issue with waiting till the check/money order/bag of pennies is safely secured in your bank account, and organizing the shipping.

Hell, with the exchange rate the way it is at the moment, you would be stupid not to sell.

I send stuff to folks back home all the time, I've sent stuff from trim clips to a whole car before now, with NO issues.

ive dealt with loads of guys in the us and never had any probs - always payed via paypal though or sent cash once i called the person and im happy they are real and everything is above board. Ive always thought its only scammers who use western union because there is no come back once the seller gets the money - I would refuse to use it if someone asked me to and go look for something else.

all these guys who say only sell to the person if they come look at it - GET REAL.. i guess every purchase you guys have ever made youve been there with cash in hand? what about all the folks who buy through cl***ifieds or ebay and they never see the buyer/seller??? you guys crack me up...

must admit ive never heard of them but that doesnt mean they dont exist.

Why not put in the ad "sell to US buyers only", I see that in ads all the time. That eliminates the overseas h***le.

These deals depend on trust both ways....I have sent money over to the US on several occasions...the vendors could have either kept the money or sent me a totally different thing than what I was expecting to get.

I use the bank transfer method....ask the seller for his international sort code/account number and then transfer the funds directly into his account...when they are in and clear, he then sends the order.I was a little concerned with this at first, but after talking with the people at my bank, they told me it is fraud proof and the safest way to send money around the world.

The best thing is to get in touch with the person concerned and speak on the phone, I think you can get a pretty good idea on a person within a couple of minutes.Besides, it is hard to see how a person buying is more of a risk than the seller....one is in a much better position to rob the other if you think about it.

I have sold 2 autos to the UK now. I have used a bank to bank money wire transfer!!!! sure it cost me 35 dollars for the transaction. However thats a small price to pay for a "for sure" money deal. they buyer cant wire money without the banks code. once the money is wired its yours. Also Uk buyers are not afraid to spend their money:D. right now theres is worth more than ours. so yea I would not be afraid to do it. hope that helps

not quite sure why its being shipped to canada first,,ask why,
i use a shipper here in the uk that sorts out the payment once the funds are in his account,he then organizes collection once the seller has his money.
i purchased a truck here on the hamb and have just got one off craiglist,i wont know if the seller was honest till i see it at the docks in england, the hamber i brought from was compleatly honest(chris)

That's what I want to know... I sold my '34 to a guy in Denmark, best sale I've had in quite sometime, bank transfer and then he had it picked up. And as much as I've seen of people getting scammed right here in the USA I no longer take people at their word....

what a question. wire transfer is by far the safer route to go. no need for starting seperate account as your money is insured by the bank if anyone gets in to it later. on most transactions we add a $50 fee for the transfer. one thing about these scammers is they try and find the person that is needing the sale to happen and leading them down scammer road. list in the ad wire transfer only and that will cut down the ********.

The more locations involved the chance of fraud goes up.
Worst: a "barrister in London" wants to buy your item. After you agree, it turns out that the money is in Switzerland, and the car has to go to Nigeria, then your expenses are refunded from the Antilles.

Interpol? State Department? CIA? What is it that you do again?

I sold a 32 PU in England a couple of years ago and while the language was a little different the money was green. I have an account that I use strictly for wire transfers, never has more than 50.00 in it except when my bank calls me and tells me the money has arrived. I have the bank immediately move it to another account, so it can't be electronically removed by a crook. I change the account between every transaction. The truck was shipped to New York where it was loaded in a container for shipment to England. Everything worked out fine.

****, you guys in the States haven't got any idea of the numbers of old cars getting shipped out daily.I have been to 1 freight forwarder in LA and there would have been 200 cars waiting to go to Europe. Aussi, New Zealand etc. These transactions are happening every day and it would be fair to say more overseas buyers get burnt from misrepresented cars than Americans getting burnt from bounced checks.
