I have heard many talk about trophy shops making them br*** Vin plates but have never seen one. Are they just a plain strip of br*** with #'s on them or do they read (for example) Ford Motor CO #########. I would love to see examples of what has been done.
If someone tried selling me a car with a br*** VIN tag, I'd need a LOT of do***enting proof before I bought it. And if a cop saw the br*** tag, you'll be answering a lot questions to keep it from being impounded. It is illegal to remove or replace a Serial Number or VIN tag.
I think he's talking about cars that are built up from various pieces and the owners used the number off the historical do***ent they purchased to register the car. I've seen the br*** VIN tags he is curious about too.
Reread my entire quote again. If a state issues a VIN on a ground up car, these are perminately attached. What's the relationship between this example and yours? Put a br*** VIN tag on either and you'll be answering a lot of questions.
You did NOT mention state issued vin tags in your post. Let me clarify. There are people who buy registration cards or ***les for a car they built. They DO NOT get a state issued VIN#, they stamp the VIN# from the registration or ***le on a tag and put it on the car and go get the ***le done. I think he is talking about those types of VIN tags and I have seen them too. Okay?

When is it legal to make your own VIN tag? Right after the State gives you written permission. If not, when asked about the tag be sure that when you tell the cop "I made it myself" you have bail money with you.
