Well said custom 50, you have to watch what you buy from any supplier, they all offer cheap import shit along with their so called made in the USA fasterners, who knows what you might get. This country ain't what it was back in the day, scares the hell out of me when I think what our kids and their kids are gonna have to deal with in their lifetime.

  3. I cannott understand why they were no good they were mabe form recycled geniune american scrap:rolleyes:. I dont buy nuts bolts or washers we have always saved the ones that we have from taking stuff apart. OldWolf:cool:

i agree, when it comes to fasteners and bolts the USA stuff is hard to come by. go to N.A.P.A. if i remember corectly they still have made in USA hardware.

I know this is sounds rediculous but...that box is labeled "zinc" not "zinc plated". If they were actually made of zinc, wouldn't they squish out just like yours did? I know some wing nuts and stuff are made from zinc, but I haven't seen zinc washers or lock washers. Maybe a misunderstanding on mfg's spec at the factory in china? Scary stuff, how strong would a zinc bolt be?

    Bigger picture...

Consumers must be willing to pay more, knowing they are getting quality stuff. If people weren't buying this shit, there wouldn't be any demand for it. Lots of folks, when faced with the choice between the $100, well made widget at the local store and the carelessly mass-produced, imported widget at the mega store for $50, they opt for the cheapo one.

Ironically enough, they are probably opting for the cheap alternative because they lost their job and had to take a lower paying one due to the fact that their job was moved overseas.

This vicious cycle is killing our economy.

We are all guilty. All of us. Every time we go to Walmart, Cosco's, Sams Club, home depot, Lowes, 90 percent of the shit they sell comes from you guessed it - China. I have had tools from Harbor Fright snap and break in my hands like it was made by a cave man or something. Even freakin Sears is selling cheap tools one third the price of Craftsman, sitting right there on the shelf and made in china.

u get what u pay for!

buy only made in the u s a

  13. JaBoney, have you seen the commercial from Geico Insurance? Now you've jumped in too and the cavemen are sick of it. You hear me? SICK OF IT!!!

Those commercials are pretty funny with the cave men. I guess that advertising stuff works subliminally because I swear I was not even thinking of the Geico dudes or the little green Geko lizzard thing.

You know the problem is that the focus of our society has been shifted from taking pride in a job done right to making the almighty dollar at any real cost, even if it means sacrificing human safety. Who cares if it breaks as long as it sells for profit. This shift in focus has had an impact in many fields from incompetent doctors that just know how to write prescriptions for drugs that patients get addicted to just because the doctor gets a kickback from the drug company to manufacturers outsourcing to China all in the name of more profit. The sad part is because so many Companies are outsourcing to China, the American company can no longer compete with American made products and are forced to follow suit to stay in business.

I believe this all stems from a mentality of wanting more for doing less. People want to do the bare minimal and reap huge profit and to hell with the rest. In general, there is a severe lack of pride in doing a good job, providing good service, providing good products, and surpasing customer expectations. Instead it's all about "how can I screw or mislead the customer into buying my crap and lining my pocket?"

My experience with fastenal has been dismal. Most of the stores are run by kids who dont have a clue. If you have the patience, just look on your own, you will find it sooner. They have to look in a book to get a part #
They do carry domestic fasteners and tools but you have to look yourself because they have the China shit too.

    My favorite
" I need 100 1/4-20 x 1" hex bolts (probably the commonest bolt on the planet)"
Fastenal guy " let me check"
    2 minutes go by
" I have 3 here, we can have the rest tomorrow"
    Me "never mind"

    Stop Chinese Shit .. How?
Bought a pair of "American" Vise-Grips .. They didn't feel like the pair I bought a few years ago, look at the tool no marking ... Go back to the box, big copy about being located in some were like So. Carolina or some damb place ... Look at the box closer and in 'lil tinny type " Manufacture to Irwin/ Vise-Grip standards in Taiwan "

Hand the two pairs to my 10 year old and ask.. Which is the better quality?.. With no hesitation he hands me the American pair ... and he was right!

At least HF makes no bones about there tools being from China ... Frigg'n American companies that try to fool you into thinking you are doing the right thing and charge you twice as much for the pleasure ....

Think I'm going to stick with buying old stuff from the swaps when I can ....

If you talking to me .. I'm not "crying" .. just using it to make a point on how sneaky corporations are getting to make a buck...

So smart man, how do you buy a Vise-Grip from any one other than Vise-Grip ?.. There are other copies but not the same ... Bit like Snap-On or any other old standard American tool going to China and trying to hide it...

Can you imagine what America would be like if the politicians hadn't turned over all our manufacturing to China? There wouldn't be a financial crisis (which stems from low pay and job exportation), there wouldn't be a healthcare crisis because people would have good paying jobs that would allow them to buy healthcare, there wouldn't be a 50% drop out rate in schools (because kids would actually be able to see a future on the horizon), there wouldn't be such a high income tax rate (because higher paying jobs means less taxes overall), there wouldn't be elderly people loosing pensions and benefits(because good/stable companies would be able to afford it).

Folks, the list goes on and on. The only way to stop it is buy the good stuff. If you must buy foreign, then choose the best quality and not the cheapest product. Example: I have a like new 1/2 breakover bar I bought from HF. I used it a couple times before I tried to change a tire on my dually truck. I wrestled that thing and finally went to Sears and paid $30 for a Craftsman and $6 for a new socket. I took it home and the difference was like night and day. The Craftsman didn't hurt these old hands and the socket didn't give a bid. So, do yourselfs a favor and buy the good stuff, you'll only have to buy it one time in the next 30 years or so. Now where is my stimulas check from that idiot in the white house?
