does anyone know the measurements of a stock 53 chevy car rear end looking for mounting flange to mounting flange for wheels found an 80s camaro rear end and wanna see if it will work
http://www.carnut.com/specs/frear.html You will have to weld your own perches on and use positive offset (like 80s camaro, 4x4 s10) wheels as the later camaros are a bit wider than the early ones. 60" is what you need.
ya i know all the basics already got the bellhousing thanks to another hamber, found this rear end has posi on craigslist for 80 bucks
We're doin' the same project...dropping a rear end from a 67 Camaro in our 53 Chevy 210. The Camaro rear end is set up for mono leaf so we'll have to do some modifications on the perches, but here is a great website on 49-54 Chevys (and from what I understand most of the info on this website came right here from the HAMB): http://50chevy.com/driveline.html Good luck with your project!
when you say 80,s do you mean the 70-81 rear or the 82 up. the 70-81 will work. the 82 up is to wide and very light duty.
so the rear end this guy has, he says is roughly 61 1/2 inches wide im not plannin on puttin wide wheels on it so i believe this will work what do you guys think
Keep looking. The wheel well is not very big in these cars, little room for error. 55-57 chevy, early nova, 70-81 camaro, s10 4x4 is a much better choice, and there are plenty out there. You'll regret it later, when you have to run funny wheels to make it fit.
55-64 car rearends are useable, its just that on 58-64 versions you need to torch off a couple brackets and weld on some $15 spring perches. If you get one from a salvage yard, you can have them cut them off for you. Not a big deal. I would stay away from the 55-56 versions due to the axle bearing size.
