I have mopar 360 1984 total rebuild. Lifter noise on number 1 cylinder have done 3 separate 15 min run ins to normal operating temp. Set throttle to 2000 rpm. using 5w 20 oil oil pressure 35 at set rpm. Any suggestions to get rid of lifter I have removed valve cover set idle then punch rocker at lifter end no change, Raised rear of car a little to ensure oil flow to front. I do not want to tear down to replace one lifter all parts are new. Engine sounds like it has tons of power just annoying noise!! Bore 10 over rv cam offy intake stainless valves 35 degrees advance at 2000 Holley 650 vaccuum secondaries any help would be appreciated. Am i not waiting long enough for run in?

I will check valve height closed and compare? When i removed rocker cover I was able to compress lifter a little pushing hard.

remove oil and check for material some silvering is ok thats berring shelf coating. if ok then start engine without cover and put a hammer tip wooden end on rocker and get a feel on how much slop is in it ,some times holding the rocker down will spin lifter and pump it up .also the rocker could be bad i asume it has stock rockers look at the tip and cup for wear , the oil is way to thin .mopar restoration

you should probably be running 20/50w oil, worth a shot and see if the noise is still there

I worked at a dodge dealership in the 70's and some of the guys used to fish the lifters out of the pushrod cutouts in the heads. Not sure what engine

  10. Take all the rocker arms off and lay a straight edge along the valve tips to run a quick check for the assembled heighth. This will eliminate the guess work. If the valve that's ticking is lower you have found the problem. If all valves are the same you need to dig deeper to the lifters. I have seen people use too much SILICONE in assembly that the shit gets in the lifters. Try the straight edge thing first>>>>.
