Stray Kat 500 just three days away

Well it is the time again that Dewey, OK turns into one of the Koolest towns in the Country. The STRAY KAT 500 starts May 2 at 12:00 pm and will end at 1:00 pm Sunday May 4, 2008. Every weekend they’re multiple car shows everywhere. Some cities will have six car shows on one same weekend. Why is it that our community attracts so many cars from all over the country? I’ve been asking the participants this question and the number one reason is; how friendly everyone is in our community. They love real Americana atmosphere and when you have hundreds of cars take over a small town you an not keep from having an flash back experience.

Some of the highlights for this years show. This is not just about the cars, the SK500 is a celebration of the 50’s gondra. You cannot celebrate the 50s without music.

Miss Major and Her Minor Mood Swings will perform at 11:30 am. This is the first time the Kansas City band will be with us. They play a Wanda Jackson style music that will touch your heart. When you hear Julie sing, you will fall in love with her powerful voice.

1:00 pm the band Pushrod from Dallas, TX. Will hit the stage. If you’re into guitars then this is the band. Last year they performed one of the best performances ever. I'll never forget how they closed the show last year.

The band that will close the show this year is the Rumblejetts. If we have a bread & butter band, it would have to be this band from Kansas City, MO. This has to be one of the best Trio’s in the country. The band is pure butter and it doesn’t get any better then that.

We will also have artist getting together to raise money for the new City clock. Artist will donate art work and we will have a silent auction to help out with the fund raiser. We are hoping to raise enough money to finish the purchase. Beside the auction items, there will be other art work for sale. Tom Mix Museum will be hosting our Hot Rod Theater again this year. If you love old Hot Rod B-movies then Tom Mix is the place for you. If that is not enough, were going to have a swap meet.

Last year we had 325 cars entered from twelve different states. This year we have more pre-entries then last year. We should be getting closer to the 400 entry mark. The show is called the Stray Kat 500 because it is limited to only 500 cars. When will we reach the mark? It could be this year.

Sorry for the ran't The Stray Kat 500 dosn't get a lot of traffic on the HAMB & you guys need to be aware of what is going on in Dewey.

I just got off the phone with the Best Western (I was putting my room on my credit card so I wouldn't have to worry about checking in before 6:00pm) and the desk clerk told me they have had a couple cancellations and therefore have a few rooms available!
"Act now- supplies are limited"!!

 

Yep. Switched mine to the host hotel about an hour ago, so if you want to be near the action you might give the BW a call.

Weather is shaping up to be nice Mick so look for the t to show up under its own power.

Oh, and i didn't hear from ya last night, I'll give you a call tonight. I'm tied up 'tween 7 and 8 tonight but any other times is fine. Let me know what you need from me.

 

Looking forward to seeing the T, George. The Conway crowd is packing their bags. Duncan's Nomad is down and likely won't get wrenched before we leave....so we are both mini-vannin' it. We'll be sure to soak up our share of fun, though. Duncan could use a few smiles.

I can't tell you the secret handshake but I can tell you to bring some pain meds, 55 gallons of baby oil and a 20x20 tarp.
