Here's another way to marvel at our great country. They covered the whole factory, parking, tarmacs and everything else at the Burbank Lockhead plant during the war. http://www.sonnyradio.com/airfactory.htm
Wow, that is cool. I'd never seen pics of that before. I've read about entire fleets of tanks and jeeps and stuff being built out of plywood and put in a strategic place. The enemy would then believe in a false build up and plan accordingly.
Now figure out how to reopen factories all over the us the displace Chinese manufactured products and we are all winners. Of course you would have to pay those on welfare more than they get now to actually work.
Must have been nice and cool under all that shade! We ought to keep this in mind for all that global warming/holes in the ozone layer stuff . We could still go outside without spf100 sunblock. LOL
good to see some patriotism on here! i see the opposite at work all the time--glad i can find it here.
I thought I had seen it before: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=211618&highlight=lockheed Good stuff just the same. Good ideas have a tendency to be repeated. That's a compliment by the way.
I promise I did a search first and nothing came up. That was a fun thread, though. I like the Cheech and Chong fantasy story. I guess the thread was worth repeating anyway.
That big 4 engine is the first prototype of the Lockheed L-049 Constellation. Probably the best looking airliner ever built. No thats wrong, it IS the best looking airliner ever built! Check this out........... A sound to put the lead in any real mans pencil! Doc.
Almost a shame that no enemy aircraft ever got over to see that! Imagine the abuse the poor navigator would have gotten from the bombardier----"Dammit! We're supposed to be over the factory, not a farming village!" "
Now I know why the search didn't work. I spelled it wrong. (Lockhead). Oops. Spelling would have helped.
For a long time I've felt that one of the reasons we won WWII was because we had the coolest looking planes. Think of the Corsair, P-51, P-38, B-25 flying works of art
I live near there. Unfortunately its all gone now. It is now a shopping center. Target, Best Buy, Lowes, etc. Too bad.
I was taking a shuttle to Burbank airport for thanksgiving and they picked up an older couple and we started talking. He said during the war he was in the army and they had to build a whole fake village on top of the Burbank airport! He said they made it look like little shops and stuff from the air. Pretty cool to hear.
Pics like these were posted sometime last year and I always mean to show everybody I know because they blow my mind. I think that they should carry on with this sort of camouflage for security reasons or not. Very cool.
I thought it was for D-day, but didn't mention it as I couldn't remember specifically. Thanks for the info.
