Is this hard to do...??? I have access to torches and a fab-shop.... My "A" spring needs "the treatment"... Any tips...??? Or should I just "leave it to the pros"...??? Any "pros" in my area, and what would they charge...???
loudpedal and ace brown did two great threads on this subject. worked for me, OLY The cancer car lives Give to cancer research
Folow the link. It will guide you to an norwegian forum. You will see som picure ther and the description is in norwegian. http://www.earlyford.no/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2163
bring your main leaf along if you want to come measure my car I'll show you how on a press all your doing is reversing the arch of the spring....so the whole thing bolts on upside down....just work back and forth gradually and eventually it'll be done i did my first one with a sledge hammer....the press is less strenuous Zach
How safe is this? I've made a press to do it but so many people have said it will weaken the spring I've been too scared to do it. My back spring is a single curve like the front one but with much more of an arch on it. Would that be safe to turn back on itself?
Any spring shop will make a new main leaf for under a hundred bucks. A whole spring is only about that much. Why mess with 75 year old springs, especially the main leaf?
I guess I'm in the "so THAT'S how they do it" club.... Wow... I thought it was all in the eyes.... I want to reverse the rear "A" main leaf... Paying $75 for a new leaf vs. learning the hard way....??? I'll take my chances.... Zach, can you PM me so I can head your way with a tape measure...??? I need to know when you are available.... So, has anybody ever gotten a straight answer on whether or not this process weakens the spring...???
