I have had a pretty serious offer on my A model from a guy in Finland, but I am unsure about the whole How to get my money thing. The guy is a registered Hamb'er but has never posted. Any body from Finland who could help out? There is a "broker" here in South Carolina who said Finlander has used before; the broker pays "cash" for my truck and then processes, boxes, and ships over seas. Again this guy is probably up and up, but never having sold to someone overseas is a little un-nerving. Any thoughts?

    Thanks

I sold a car that went to Norway. I set up a bank account at a different bank than where I nomally do business. The Funds were wired to the account. Once there thay cant be touched by anybody other than you. I helped out getting the car from Detriot to Jersey .Because of the langauge barrier it was just easier that way. He made arrangmenets from there. Car got on a boat and 1 month later he had it. All in All not a bad deal. I took lots of photos and gave detailed build records and parts lists for the new buyer. There needs to be some serious trust from both parties to do a overseas deal in my opinion. Good Luck PM me if you need more details

I would use paypal which converts foreign currency and ask him to pay the 3 percent fee. Safe for both parties.

lmao, you can't be serious about Paypal... maybe for a deposit...

bank transfer is the way to go... I sold my '34, it went to Denmark, talked to the bank, they suggested a bank transfer, once it hit my account there was no turning back...

I just sold my 63 Galaxie to a guy in Sweden. I was lucky enough that he had a middleman here handle all the business, cash in hand. He's shipped like 20 cars over there. It cost more to ship my car than buy it.

I have exported quite a few cars. I have used wire transfer, paypal, bank check, money order, and even American currency which was FedExed to me. It's all good.

Thanks 'Beet for recommending me. I have just replied Shane's pm. I just want everyone to know, Finland is a small country with three dozens of Hambers. If anything ever goes wrong, we are always there for you. The global H.A.M.B. family, you know.

International money transfer to your local bank is way to go. Takes a while (maybe a week) but is definitely the best way. That's how I moved my own cash from here to there when I used to live in Seattle.

What Powertyflats said, all other ways may work as well. However, buying an international money order from Finland, for instance, may cost $50 to $100... Not as easy as to drive by you post office and pay the $0.30 MO fee...

And one more thing: Please keep in mind that the sellers' only worry is to get money. Buyers' got a lot more to worry about... Even shipping takes a month. My -59 Impala, bought from Hamber Federsled, was badly smashed with a forklift in Seattle harbor and it was noticed after a month and ½ in Finland when the sealed container doors were opened...

Shane, If this broker is Rays Automotive in Timmonsville I am the guy who takes those car out of container here in Finland. Ray has done this almost 20 years and last year we imported 144 cars, mostly old iron and 44 mc:s. So we are not playing any games.

I can garantee there will be no problems, You will get prompt payment and everything else is taken care by Ray. He will pack the car to container and makes paperwork to customs.

    It can't go wrong.

I'm also happy to help if I can. Especially with language barriers

I honestly don't think that you will have any problem with this transaction, but I'll bet that the buyer will have one hell of a headache over here when he has to get it inspected and registered. The inspectors are such a bunch of tight wads!...Oh, and don't get me started on the lovely auto import tax we have here....

I can understand how you feel, but believe me, the car guys over here will give it as much care, respect, and appreciation as anybody.

Guys after talking to a couple of you I am very relieved. The gentlemen who has been tlaking to me seems to be a great guy. He loves American Iron and promised my truck a "good home". Car guys would understand that this means something when you have spent money, time, blood sweat and tears to build something that, no matter how simple or plain, is truly a reflection of who youwere, are , and will become. I have thought , and prayed, long and hard about selling MY truck, and have come to the conclusion that it is the right thing to do. It will allow me to do my 57 the way I have always wanted, allow me to put some money away for my son, and several other benefits. The downside is thatI will not have my little truck to tool around in any more. That's tuff. Riku, the guy in Finland , seems cool.

Hey Tudor you're impartial , how about telling what you think of the ruck(Honestly Good and Bad) since you have seen it face to face a couple of times.

Thanks to ecerybody, and yes Ray's is the company he is talking about using. We'll see what happens. Later

P.S. One way or another I am driving a hot rod to Dixie Fried this year again. If I don't have my little truck Wahtch Out for a snorting Black 2 door sedan (57) pulling in.

    Later

P.S. If the sell doesn't happen TRUST me I have no problems with keeping the truck forever. Whatever is meant to be will be.

If I hit the lottery, or if this deal doesn't happen I don't think you'll have to worry about it going anywhere.
The Guys first name is Riku, and like I said he seems cool.

my wifes family works for shipping companies. if you have any questions i am sure they would answer them. they are the "middle man" from what i understand. what will happen to your ***le? will it go with the car or to customs? where is your closest port? reason i ask is because i am moving to north georgia (cleveland) and want to buy and sell cars. shipping may become something i will need to understand. randy

I would say CHarleston S.C. or Savanah Ga. are the 2 closest ports. Ray's takes care of all paperwork the way I understand it.
