I just painted my car this past weekend, and a couple of my friends have been busting my balls about me painting my bumpers. To be honest, I only painted them because I cannot afford chrome bumpers right now. This is a budget build. Thoughts??

Monotone cars have a pro-stock look to them, thats the issue. maybe painting them a different color?

I am not a fan of painted bumpers on anything besides a pick up, and then those are usually white and the body another color. Looks real 80's to me.

    You have good friends.

Paint them silver, or even white... it will look 1,235x better.

Chrome powder coat would look better. Cheaper than re-chroming. Just my 2 cents:rolleyes:

Blast them and cover them with gibbs oil or leave them off. I mean it does look pro streety but it's not killing the car with them on. Think it may help with a nice shiny chrome grille.

chrome powdercoat was also the route i was thinking about going. but then again, my bumpers are in really good shape. probably wont do **** to them besides SOS pad. :)

i dont mind the way yours look though, not too bad. i think if you didnt have the white top though it would be overkill for sure.

white may also be a good idea, the color that matches your top maybe?

Agreed, a nice strip of shiny might break up the monotone.

    Painted bumpers are soooo eighties!;)

Lots of good ideas above. I think I would just take them off or paint them white to match the roof.

I think once you get the grill back in it will look killer. But then what do I know ...

don't go white and don't try to look like chrome with any paint (powder included), go for a gunmetal color, like a pewter, know what I mean? Maybe even in a texture... similar to un pollished T-thrust wheel spoke color. and if possible spread it around a bit, do the upper grill bar & any other grill pieces you might plan on doing. back bumper, any side moldings. headlight rings, tie it together.

If you go liquid then go with a modern silver metalic like a darker platinum.

if you try powder then ask to see a silver in a "vein" texture. It lays out smooth & glossy enough to clean real nice but it has a rolling erratic texture to it that kind of looks like pitted metal & the color marbles with a blend of silver & black.

You gotta do something like that so you're not so obvious with the "i can't afford chrome" thing (neither can I).

Know what I mean though? do something different (not over the top, but new)

Silver's fine I think but don't try to be so bright that you are trying to simulate chrome... think gun metal, pewter.

They look like ****, but I had 'em too. Saved up enough to chrome 'em eventually.

****ty, bent, rusted chrome bumpers look better than painted ones IMO

  19. If we were all in a big room, the veteran HAMB'ers would just stripping off the paint without asking you. :D

With everything that has been said, I think you know that you should strip them deep down inside. But let me say that the rest of your car looks very cool. Any more pics?

I'd strip them down to what ever was under the paint when you started. Pits, rust...what ever. It tells me that it's a work in progress (we've all been there) and that the builder doesn't think it's finished. With them nicely painted it implies that you want it to look like that.

I think I would have left them alone. now that you have painted them blue, people will think that you think that looks good.

maybe when you go to a show put a tip jar in front of the car asking for donations with a sign:

    "CHROMELESS, PLEASE HELP"

I think they look fine the way they are. How worried are you about how much other people like them? Do YOU like them? That's what matters. (Since you asked, I think they look better painted than ****ty and rusted and pitted. If they were just dull but NOT rusted and pitted, I would have left them alone.)

I'm not to concerned with what other people think, I'm building this car so my wife and kid can enjoy something I have enjoyed for years. I rather be driving one of my trucks I just sold but since you can't put three people in 40 ford, it was time to move to a car.

thanks for all the input, I was just wondering where other people stood on painted bumpers.

Painted nerf bars...OK. painted bumpers...gay. Paint them white or silver for now- chrome 'em when you can.
