Money, Time & Purists be damned... let's cut up some cars today!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by decker, Apr 30, 2008.

  1. Ok photochoppers... Here's the one car money, time and purists be damned I'd like to see done as a classic hot rod. It's a 1927 Bentley (5 window ) Coupe. Let's ditch the fenders, running boards and spare tire, chop the roof, and toss this one in the weeds!!!

What other mega-dollar cars would you like to see this done to... just because you could... even though you can't.

Here's a nice 3-Winder Bentley as well... dig that roof line... heck the entire car for that matter.
Can you imagine the dude with the orange sweater watching a group of hot rodders tearing into this???

Can't improve on that-a factory street rod. ---bil

  4. I'm definitely no purist or resto-bater, but, most of those cars were custom designed by the purchaser, not the maker. I love a meticulously detailed rare pre-war coupe, sedan, roadster or phaeton.

Your can't improve on that one. That type of timeless styling and beautiful lines are what customizers are chasing after with their assembly line cars :D.

JK's right on, alot of these kind of cars have coach-built bodies and many varied from one to another. These things have amazing technology and can easily keep up with cars on the road today so why change them. I saw one sedan that as an original car would have been worth 250K but someone decided to cut it up and make a ratrod that couldn't even sell for 20K...a complete waste because so few are left.

But I'm no purist, cars are meant to be enjoyed! One thing I do know...I'll never be the guy wearing a goofy orange sweater around my neck.

    That's the second thing I noticed!:D

There are some things you just can't improve on. Cutting up one of those cars will get you a special corner in hell!

I kind of think of "traditional" hot rodding as building cars that were traditonally built in the 40s, 50s and 60s. I really don't think anybody was hot-rodding a pre-war Bentleys or v16 Cadillacs. I realize there were Marmon v16 saltflat cars and probably a couple of others. If you had a pile of parts and wanted to recreate one of those I think that would be cool, but cutting up a complete car seems foolish to me.

If the idea is to make something unique, why would you start with a car that there was maybe 5 of originally and cut it up? It's not going to be any more unique then leaving it alone.

  10. You need help, its already been Hot Rodded....You think it came from the factory looking like that??

Maybe you'd like to "Ditch the fenders get in the weeds a set of vintage slicks, red wheels maybe a allison under that long hood....." on this too?

By the way the Bugatti did come from the factory that way. The Duesy aka "The Morman Meteor is definately a hot rod. Needs nothing other than a skull hood ornament & a set of whitewalls and Radirs
