car bodies reached $10.00 per hundred pounds in Hope Arkansas today!
i just thought that i was poor.
looks like i will have less than 100 cars soon. time to pull the good parts and get after it.
    that's the reallity everywhere.
my cars are mostly junk but i toured a yard of over 300 pre-70s cars yesterday and the owner is stripping and hauling.
the only comfort is knowing that my nice cars will be worth more when the frenzy is over.
talk about mixed emotions. i have them now.

  2. yup- even the "good" stuff starts looking HEAVY at these prices. I have two I keep considering crushing. Both were previous crusher "saves"

1962 Chevy Panel and '56 Chevy 4 door.

both have lots of good parts, the panel would build, but man, can't save 'em all, and at these prices, the dough would go a long ways on my rail.

When you think about it, it's a surprise ANY of this prewar stuff survived WWII s**** drives.

  6. My son just took some s**** metal crates to the s****per today and low and behold an late 40's Chevy truck flatbed in nearly rust-free condition sitting in there.
When he asked about buying it, they told him that once something was in the gate it could not be re-sold and that was thier policy (the policy was posted on the fencing).
If they won't save and sell these cars/trucks it makes the matter even worse.
This is a sad story that spreading quickly.

    that is sad.
at least around here you can usually buy from the yards.(metal&cars)
some of the individuals that hual will sell off off the truck, some will not.
i always try to reduce my s**** to the least usable material but most people are just after the money.

...every day I see the same thing ,trailer loads of s****/**** headed for the s****per watched a 56 ford go behind the wall to certin doom...tragic...very tragic. don't these people think about what they are doing ?! or is it just the loure of the "fast buck"....

  9. The s****yard/crusher I mentioned did say if you could talk to the owner before they pulled in the gate you could deal with them, but not after it was inside.
The problem is who has the time and can sit outside the gate and wait and hope for a car/truck to popup.

With a ****py economy it's hard for people not to cash in I guess. I better hop on a few project cars I've been thinking about before they end up turning into a little cube. :(

I wonder if they would let you sit out in a lawn chair with some cold beer?

  11. Now that might be an Idea... Hold all day club meetings outside the s****yard waiting and watching.
What do you think 'bout that ?

I just took 4300 pounds in. I have never seent his yard so busy.
Theres was a mountain of cars there and usually its just a few cars and some s****. This time there were school buses s****ped and a constant line of traffic in the place. Load after load.

Up here in Jefferson, GA, the sign on the wall says $10.25 per hundred for cars and light trucks, as of this morning.
The yard won't sell complete cars, but they DO have a policy of pulling all the cl***ics out of the crush line and putting them in the pick-a-part area for us. The cars all sit there until they're deemed picked, and then they go in the crusher.
I pulled the 9-inch out of a '58 Edsel Wagon this morning, and that was about ALL that was good from this car. Second narrow '57-'59 9-inch I've gotten from there in the last year. I've also gotten a BUNCH of parts for my '62 Suburban, off of '60-'66 Chevy trucks in the last two years. A friend and I picked one pretty savable truck to death, but I got an auto steering column, useable heater, windshield washer set-up, Deluxe steering wheel with good horn ring and mint doors off it. Someone else went back later and pulled off the hood, fenders, front bumper, inner fenders and the whole cab. There was a '63 in there a couple months ago, and someone sawz-all'd the roof off it, right in the middle of the pillars. Only thing that would have been taken for was to replace and repair their rusted roof section, as these trucks are notorious for rusting out above the windshield.
I don't mind seeing good old cars and trucks in a junk yard as long as they can be canibalized by us...it ****s when a good restorable vehicle goes in like that truck we killed, but when the parts are going to guys fixing their projects, it's not too bad.
It ****s monkey balls when they go right to the crusher though.

  14. Hey Brad54 , I'll have to check that place out.
I wish they would do that at this place. Maybe if enough people inquire, we can talk them in to it, it's worth a try.

i think ya'll might be on to something. haul a load of ****, get paid, sit at the gate and wait. sounds like a sat. party if the police are cool with it. lol!!

i don't think the economy is too bad yet. keeop your fingers crossed. the main factors in high s**** prices are foriegn compition for materials and the shooting contests that our country is involved in.
not trying to take this in a political direction. it's just that i've hauled s**** ever since i was a kid. started with my dad, his way of paying me and it not being an allowance. one thing that he said that has always held true was "when this counrty is in a shooting war you can count on s**** prices going up and staying up for the duration."
i could stand lower prices if it kept many of my friends and countrymen out of harms way, but it only works in one direction.

Yea, but during these year, ANY car you could get to run was worth driving. With very few civilian cars being built, I'm sure any car was very desirable. And 32 Fords were only 9 years old.

around here the salvage yards(dismantlers) are starting to curtail whole car sales, but the s**** yards(iron&metal) still sell to anybody with money for the most part. i'm sure it will change eventually.
i too don't have a problem s****ping left overs but i hate to see complete cars shredded or chrushed.

talk to the owner. the guy tellin you it's their "policy" is likely a pion just following what he was told. maybe if you plead with whomever has any actual authority around there you might get somewhere. make it worth his while. offer a little cash to him personaly if he helps ya out. only reason they would'nt sell it to you is because it might require a little effort on their part. a couple greenbacks can make it worth the effort for the individual.

Most pre 64 two doors get saved around here.. its the more doors we all let go by the pound!!

At least the yard I go to keeps the old cars and just crushes the newer junk.. The owner is an old man who loves his vintage cars so I guess he doesnt have the heart to crush em.. Thank God.

theres still people selling the stuff. I think im good for my next six projects! my buddy on here just bought another rustbucket to fix up and drive. not everybody is s****ping them out!

  24. Man Id gladly give someone 300-400 for a car they are bringing to the s**** yard just save it. As long as it was worth saving.

  25. I'll sell anything I'm going to crush if someone wants it.

No one's wanted it, so strip and s**** it goes.

Heck I'm even making a copper pile and I'm going to do a battery run too before I'm done.

I saw a very restorable '59 Ford 2-door a couple s**** runs ago ... missing just the hood ... motor even looked fresh. They wouldn't sell the car, wouldn't sell parts. Nothing.

Kind makes me sad to think that the old cars that are part of our heritage will come back from China as cheap **** at Walmart.

We have been seeing a lot of stuff on trailers going to the s**** yard. Today I met a truck with its box full. I looked like a 47-54 5 window chevy cab in the back. I also talked to a local s****per today. He said there was a truck cab and frame at a yard that looked very similar to mine (33 Ford). He said it looked like it caught on fire. There was some other old cars with the ole truck too. The s****per said he got to watch them crush it. Glad I was not there.

That's a godam shame. It seems to me that good business would tell the yard owner to sell the good ones for more than he can get in s**** value. A buddy of mine was going to s**** a 66 F100. I told he was nuts. I made a deal to sell it for him and to split what ever it brings over the s**** number. Maybe we each can help to save a few!!!!!

This going to be a weekly thread topic? As concerned as I am with old cars getting s****ped, Im more concerned as to where its going, and why, and how we are selling this country out as a producer or engineer of anything.
