Back in '76 my family moved here from Riverside, CA to the St. Louis area when I was 14. From the very first year my Dad had us at the Easter Sunday car show at Forest Park and with the exception of a stint in the Marine Corp friends and I have never missed a single show. In fact it’s about the only one I can stomach. That show has been an annual event for many years held by the Horseless Carriage Car Club. As it grew I guess some *** decided that Hot Rods would no longer be admitted on to the upper parking lot. I thank him...because there is a lower lot. And so now every year we have two shows. Some people decided that they will show up and they will participate on the lower lot in the park. I am only guessing but would venture to say that there are at least two times the car count on the lower lot and at certain times in the day it is freaking crowded to the point of "excuse me" "excuse me" "excuse me" to move around. This is how the show is scheduled/listed every year.

MAR. 23 SUN. ~ Horseless Carriage Car Club Car Show ~ Upper Lot Forest Park ~ ST. LOUIS, MO.
    ---------------------
MAR. 23 SUN. ~ St. Louis Street Rod Easter Show Forest Park ~ ST. LOUIS, MO.

And if you come? Do not miss the upper lot because they are wearing bonnets instead of tattoos. There are some of the best the automotive industry has to offer up there. It's just that most of us can't afford them :)

I guess what I mean is don’t ***** about it, do something.

Farewell to a piece of real American History, santa Maria will be good but it will take 5 years for people to stop saying "but it's not the same" As usual commerce swallows up tradition RIP Paso :(

Wine snobs? don't you mean speculating Chainers? . Some one has seen the oppurtunity to make a dollar and has approached the city fathers with a few 'consderations' and hijacked a cultural festival in order to push their own agenda. Happens all over the world these days .
They don't care about car enthusiasts,it's like Mc Donalds and their child advertising, they make out they are looking after your childs health and nutrition when in fact it's the parents credit card they are eyeing off.
This's just marketing under another guise.

I think in this case,it's because of "KRUSE Auctions",which is not a spelling mistake. P*** the "GREY POUPON"crowd not Ol' Skool Rodz!;)

I'd love to have a t-shirt from the first annual BARRANCO PODRIDO de HUEVOS show.

I grew up in Paso and I can honestly say it is pretty much finally ruined by the wine crowd and all those snobby, no count, fake Cowboy, non dirty boot, clean pressed pant wearin', roper shirt lovin', look at me, sons of *****es. There are a few great old timers left but not too damn many. Too bad , cause it was a great place to spend my childhood.
Let's have a run to Bradley California it will never change and it still has the rough and simple ambiance( I know the previously mentioned crowd would love that word) we all love.

  14. I won't be there, and probably won't ever have a need or want to go into Paso Robles again.
I went to the show for the first time last year, with my family. We bought food, drinks, fuel, etc and spent at least $300..
That times all the people there plus the ones that stayed in Hotels adds up.
The snootchy winos wont stay in the motels or even overnight at all. They will blow in for the show and go home. Or stay in their monolith of an RV if they do stay.
Just because people are rich or "upper crust" doesn't mean they spend money.
What they miss is alot of the cars at the Paso show of past are owned by people with PLENTY of $$, and were willing to spend it freely.
Screw 'em.. see you in SM!

Had lunch with several Paso Robles/Atascadero car guys last week, and the word is they're planning a loose cruise of their own on Friday evening, to show their disgust with the city.....and then will be in Santa Maria Saturday/Sunday ( betcha won't pickup on this at the Paso Chamber of Commerce website)....and who cares anyhow at this point.....Santa Maria will be De Place!

Sherwood Park was the real deal, about the cars & car people and not an income for the city. We should have seen the writing on the wall back in 1991.
    Go Santa Maria.....

I can sleep in my pick-up in Santa Maria as well as I did in Paso. It pissed me off when they charged us to "camp" in the Fair Grounds parking lot but wouldn't let us use the bathrooms because the nice bicycle people "payed good money to use the Fair Grounds." My money was good enough for them to take! I guess it's OK' the whole parking lot was starting to smell like a toilet. It seemed so uncivilized to camp where we'd ****ped the year before! And then they towed my pick-up up and down the street before the cruse, my fault I lost track of time but man I left my gun in there. And this too shall Paso!

I think it may be a real good thing!! Let the folks that need the "Paso Flavor"" to do what they like. I don't think it will detract for Santa Maria and the high zoot gang can have what they need. And hopefully just more trad. stuff at S & M -- could this be the new nickname--?? as in PASO? Oh well just had to say it. I think its really cool having a new adventure!! Rock On!!-Sololobo

When I first heard of this change I was angry; it didn’t make any sense to me and it still doesn’t. Why would local business owners agree and vote to have the show moved to a different town. Yes, it’s “Wine Country” and the “Rich folk” stop into town. But do they really stay at the local 2-3 star Motels/Camp Grounds and do they eat at the local Pizzerias, Hamburger Joints, Mom and Pops Joints to have their homemade country style potatoes, will they stop at the Tilted Kilt and other Taverns for hours to have as many cold ones their bodies can handle, will they stop at the grocery markets and mini marts for ice, snacks and beer all weekend? No!!!

What the heck is up with the talk about “the crowed is too rowdy”? Honestly I’ve been attending this event for years and I’ve yet to see a huge fight or loud annoying crowds that I feel threaten by. Everyone seems to keep their cool. The town isn’t vandalized by thugs there are no looters. Com’on!

When WCK announced the show was being moved to Santa Maria I was ok with that until I heard it was going to be at the Fair Park and they’re charging $50-$70 to register. I started thinking that WCK was going to make the bucks off of us and it was probably their idea for the move. You got to figure in Paso registrations were limited to a handful of cars and not that many people participated in the cruise and only a few were allowed to park on the park. Everyone with rides parked on the streets or in the parking lot of the hotels/motels. It was pretty much a freebie for all of us hard working car owners. It was a good pay off – you work hard all year or if you’re like me 3 weeks before the event to work on your ride spending lots of money to fix’er up then taking that long drive there knowing that you made it there without breaking down and safe because you worked on it with your own hands. You arrived in Paso proud and ready to socialize and have a mini vacation from the Rat Race we live in.

Going back to the Fairgrounds we have to pay up to $70 bucks to park and I’m guessing more than 2000 cars can fit there so that’s a good chunk of change for WCK. As we pay admission we will probably have no shade, be directed to where we can park, be forced to eat and drink what ever is being sold within the property, there will probably be no ins and outs and spectators maybe charged a fee as well. Unlike Paso, where you can choose any restaurant and can come and go as you please. I’m thinking it’s going to **** but
with all this said and a lot of talks with friends I will give Santa Maria and WCK a chance. I love me some Penny besides I figure if they wanted to make money off of us they could have done it years ago.

I hope we can be back in Paso and back to our own annual Traditions next year.
The good part about it all so far is the Motel/Hotel Rooms are a lot cheaper than Paso, that’s until they figure out how much they can make off of us next year.
So, I’ll be seeing you folks up there this year. Drive Safe.

First of all you had to pay to get into the park and to park on the street next to the park in Paso. You had to pay to cruise and got sticker showing that you allowed to park your car within the bocked off streets. Second of all THERE WAS NO VOTING!!! No one voted the city council pushed Penny out and she said f&@k you and left. Which was the city counsels plan. They are trying to change everything around here. They are trying to shut down the last home town bar The Pine Street Saloon. This is a place that has been here for 30-40 years. It is a big hang out on our pioneer day parade( a home town tradition) After the parade the cowboys the real ones come in the bar riding thier horses and get a free shot of whiskey. So the CITY is doing all of this IT IS NOT THE PEOPLE! Going to other shows the past 5-6 years I understand why Paso was such a great show. You are right you come and go as you please enjoy a nice park and weather and look at awesome cars from all over FOR FREE! to the spectators. I will miss the show it will NEVER come back, Santa Maria will not be as fun but we will all go anyway because it is something to do.
