Anyone On Here A Hot Wheels Collector?
I Am A Collector And I Thought If There Were More We Could Help Each Other Find Stuff Or See Whats For Sale.
So If You Are Post Up What You Got, Whats For Sale, What Ur Lookin For.

  2. Wrong website! There was a thread "what else do you collect". Do a search for that thread. Some diecast collectors on there. This will probably get closed.

It seems that this is totaly hamb related to me, if no ones interested then it will just die off, why close it down?

My father was a hot wheels collector, he has about 5000 or so, someday we will likely sell them all, and the 100 treasure hunts hes got...

  5. What? You re dead wrong.
Hot wheels started many of us in hot rods back in 1968.
Those are the first cars I had interest in, and they progressively got larger.
    I went 1:64 to 1:24 to 1:1.

I collected until a few years ago, I got tired of scalpers.
    I still have a bunch.

Hot Wheels got me started back in the 60's. I had lots of Redlines. Moved on to model car building, then slot cars, then go karts, then the real thing.

My dad got me started on hotwheels, and then he shortly after that gave me and my brother our first model to build, a 50 ford pickup. We still have it to. No paint no nothing just plain glue it together and thats it. Loveed it lol

I've got a few Hotwheels, Johnny Lightnings and some 1/18 and 1/24 scale stuff. I mainly collect 1/64 scale though. I've got somewhere @ 350-400 cars. But, if you ask my wife that number could grow to 600-700 cars... ;)

I started on Hot Wheels Christmas of '67 with a Purple Fleetside, and a Blue Camaro included in a drag race set. I saw it in the Wards Christmas catalog and Santa ordered it - the didn't arrive 'til well after Christmas - I think it was March '68. Still have 'em along with about 6000 or more. I quit heavily collecting about 8 years ago when I realized I could save for retirement & have more cool real cars or have a lot of Hot Wheels. The frenzy and bribing the Wal Mart stock people/toy managers was a little too much for me as well. I still buy 'em every now and again, and buy some for my 3 year old boy. I only get what I dig, not every stinkin' variation like I did for a while. If you are in this area - watch for my estate sale someday. There'll be alot of blister pack original redlines as well as some first series Toppers (the REAL Johnny Lightnings) in loose and blister pack as well! Hopefully that won't be any time soon. :D

  14. I don't collect them, but my son does. ;)

I buy two of each. One for him to trash and one stays in the packaging. Hopefully he won't find them! LOL

I've got a few Hot Wheels, but I wouldn't call myself a collector of them.

I have some Hot Wheels, work on some full size cars for Hot Wheels, and am building a car for Hot Wheels designer Wayne Scott right now at the shop. Hot Wheels are fun. Isn't that what it is all about?

I have high graded my collection of 4000 down to 1300, at some point I will try to sell off the other 2700 in one big lot.
Luckily I only buy what I like, so if they don't go -NBD-
Hot wheels got me back on track with cars in the mid 90's.

Shit, i cant find threads that are over a day old...

  23. Not a collector either, but I have a couple dozen left, stopped actively collecting them a few years back. I have always bought them for my kids for Bdays, Easter, and Christmas, and then on those just because days, lol. I even gave them the option of the happy meal at McDs, or a $1 cheeseburger and a hotwheels from walmart, most of the time they picked the latter!
Now I give mine away to them and they appreciate them more, they're older and so are the cars. Not sure if my girls will be into the hot rod scene as they get older, but it worked with my son, as it worked with me.....Hot Wheels, then Slot Cars, then Model Cars, and now Real Cars!

Yeah, lookin' for em' was a lot more fun when you could still find a few, and every money hungry scalper wasn't tring to make a killing off of evilbay. Oh well, there is still a lucky yard sale every now and then.

  26. I am not a huge collector, butttttt I buy them all the time, usually 2 or 3 or 4 of the same ones, especially if I like them. My buddy does too, we keep a couple for ourselves and give the rest to our kids, He has 4 boys, I have a boy and girl who are both gear heads. Anyhow Back about 14 yrs ago(before I got married) I had all my S**t in a storage unit, well you guessed it, It was broken into, all my R/C cars($10k worth, I used to race them) worth of shit, all my hot Wheels, Matchbox, and misc. model cars minus a few were ripped off. even took some of my F'n clothes and old mustang parts as well.. I had butt loads of early hot wheels, non in packaging though, but some in really good shape. Many earlier cars than hot wheels too plastic ones, and many many die cast, so well used you could hardly read the writing on them, if you could read it at all. I do have a friend who is a collector, mostly of race cars though, not hot rods etc. He goes to tons of events, and always has signed ones available as well. In fact today he is having a sale today. Anyhow I've enjoyed this thread and the other die cast, model threads, and Enjoy checkin out the hard hand built models by many of you guys here. Some Times I sure miss a REALL good old fashioned hobby shop(like I used to work in) where Everyone who works there is a true hobbyist. Thanks

I bought a ton of them from 1997-2003. I've probably got most of the first editions and variations of them. Once they started getting stupid with 100 first editions and multiple variations I gave it up. I have a hundred or so customs I've made myself or bought off of ebay. lots of really cool stuff out there.

I wouldnt mind selling my assortment. I've got a bunch or Muscle Machines, Dubs (for the big diameter torque thrust wheels for customizing) and a ton of the 2,3, and 4 car 100% limited edition sets from 1998-2001 or so.

I haven't bought any Hot Wheels in about 5 years, but I still have around 300 cars, all loose. A couple dozen redlines as well. At one point around 2001 I had nearly 5000 of the little buggers. I got sick of the collecting frenzy, with the local scalpers bribing store clerks to let them get all the good stuff. I finally quit collecting in 2003, although I do keep my eyes open for redlines at garage sales and flea markets.

Hot Wheels are what got me interested in hotrods way back in '68. My first one was a purple Python. My favorites were the first hotrod ones from '68-9...the Hot Heap, '31 Ford Woody, '32 Ford Vicky, and the '36 Ford Coupe.
