New here but thought that the pics from 1st steps on this 1927 AA maybe coud be interesting for looking. Truck was rusting away in a yard clutched by piles of junk. Original crane. This first phase just for putting it in rolling mode. It's rolling now !!! We'll try and take it to next level soon. <O</O <O</O <O</O <O</O <O</O Knot<O</O
WOW! Now that is a change! Nicely done. I don't know what it is about old tow trucks but I think they are awesome.
This is nothing short of awesome. You guys are doing a super job and I'm jealous. There is a similar one out behind an old farmers place in northern Michigan I've been trying to buy for almost 20 years. He doesn't give you the typical "I'm going to fix it up" routine, his reply centers around his father who owned it when it was new. I've got to respect that but it still seems a shame to let it sit and deteriorate. Even an offer to restore it and bring it around to give him a ride hasn't moved him. I also offered to cronicle the rebuild and give him a s****book with the whole story but he's determined to keep it an watch it slowly sink into the ground. One good thing is he put an old car hood over the cab so it's protected from rotting but the last time I was ther the hood and grille and front fenders have badly rusted. I probably won't hear about any estate auction when he dies and the older I get the possibility of me restoring it deminishes. Oh well, you can't have them all. Frank
Now that's "Neat". I'm a Vintage Wrecker Collector myself. Nothing as old as yours, but here they are, http://community.webshots.com/album/116208177WBeZZP
Nice resto! Great job saving it! There's a '30-'31 wrecker near me rotting in a yard. It's got a REALLY heavy frame (6" C channel) and double stacked rear leaf springs (16 leaves if I recall). Flatman
here is a pic of mine old nursey truck i have the boom it runs and moves on its own boom works off of a pto..........
The grill and bonnet were wrong, and came from a 30's truck. The frame/ch***is is AA2535257 so we suspect 27 or something. We have found older grill frame and stuck it in. Were are some more pics from the project: <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o></o> We are not putting final touches to this first phase. Knot
We took the truck to motorcl***ico in Lisbon Here are some of the photos: Knot <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
When it was time to move, the proud owner had to dug some of the dung out of the recently instaled gas tank. The original gas tank showed a leak the night before and we had to change it for another one... with some rust particles that were uncounted for! In the end the truck was alright and we had a blast. Here is a pic that proofs that rust never sleeps. knot
Nice work bringing that tow truck back! Your truck is most likely a 1930 based on the cab, firewall and interior gauge panel. Even the AA stamped on your frame says it is a commercial Model A and not a Model TT as a 1927 would be. Keep us posted on any future progress.
