And several times in the flic, they show tony stark's (iron man's) deuce roadster.... theres got to be a rodder workin for that movie..... theres a seen of him pullin the head on the flattie, he gets the red and gold color combo for his armor from the deuce, and its his screen saver at the office.... I effin love sh*t like that!

PLUS a couple of bobbers in there too!

John Favreau (director of Iron Man, Swingers) is a hot rod fan. Think he was lurking around here when he was working on a script idea about post-WWII lakes racers. He also hangs out at Bob's in Toluca Lake. I have wanted to talk to him for a long time about my movie script.

Got back from Iron Man a little bit ago.

I had never seen that '32 Roadster before but it is something else. Man I've got to find some more pictures of it.

    Great film by the way.

    Ahhhh....lol.

That was Favreau's car. I thought it would be his. It was too period correct looking (flathead, dual strombergs, flamed, and driven) to be something a set designer came up with.

I sold my 35 chevy sedan to a movie production company that is making a movie called "Public enemy" starring Johnny Depp. Its supposedly a movie about John Dillinger - funny thing is I think Dillinger was shot in '34......

  16. my eyes lit up when i saw the roadster in the movie
nice to see a vehicle with that much class in a movie
wish iron man would of drove around in it instead of flying

Just got back from Iron Man myself. I was thinking that a HAMBer had to be involved with that movie, to have that awesome roadster in it ....

I certainly didn't expect to see any flatheads & bias plies in that flick. Awesome flick it was, too.

A guy who comes to my local cruise night got his old Chevy in that movie ... I think it's a 51. Cool old fastback, dual-carb six.

It's a TOTAL long shot, but if ANYONE knows how I can get John Favreau to take a peek at the rest of this I would be eternally grateful. Thanks Jim

I know the spacing below is off from correct script form- but that's the way it cut and pasted from my saved document.

    FADE IN:

    EXT. COASTAL ROAD - DAY

Looking into the carb, the butterflies open, close, open. The engine cranks over in time with the music. A roar erupts as the engine fires and revs in time with the music. Louder, softer, loud again.

Pulling back a bit we follow the fuel line rearward. From above we see the entire engine. We drop down to follow the throttle linkage, music dancing to the movement of the linkage and the rumble of the pipes.

    FX

Into the firewall and down to the accelerator pedal. A heavy well-worn “engineer’s boot” taps out revs, matching the music.

A trickle of green electricity crackles here and there as the engine bangs out something that sounds like a scream along with its mechanical noises, blended with wails of a surf guitar.

Back inside, we follow the shaft of the painted shifter to the skull shift knob. A gloved hand drops onto the skull and pulls it into first gear.

From above we track the Black '32 Ford coupe as it rolls through the low coastal hills.

Close in on details of the coupe as it rumbles along with the music. Each part exudes menace or a hidden threat.

See the wheel as it brakes… slides forward with a chirp and stops.

From overhead see the entire dark coupe.

Coupe stops at a “mom and pop” store for information. Hear no conversation, but the old store keeper seems reluctant? No. He looks frightened by the man in the coupe. The old man points in the direction the coupe is heading.

The coupe leaves. The old man seems sick or shaken. An old woman comes to him from the store, seeking to help him or to understand.

The coupe moves on down the road, stopping at a roadside stand. Through the chopped window we see the dark back of the driver as he talks to a frightened woman who shakes her head. More details of the coupe are explored as we hear footsteps of the driver open then close the door. Revs come up and the coupe screams up the road.

The voice that sounds like a scream is heard. And now heard faintly, mixed with road noise... menacing sounds that may be curses, but are too indistinct.

EXT. AT THE BEACH - DAY

The coupe drives up on the beach where some other cars are parked. Surfers and a few others hanging out, at first they point and laugh. The coupe comes to a forceful stop. Exiting the coupe, the dark form moves toward a group. We can’t hear what they say, but two or three in the group sidle away from the group a little afraid.

    DENNIS
    That’s his brother out there.
    That’s Skip.

    DRAGICH
I don’t want his brother. I want to know where
    Buck is.

    ROSE
    He’s at Steve’s shop.

    DRAGICH
    Steve who?

    DENNIS
Baily. Steve Baily. He's Buck and
    Skip's uncle.

    DRAGICH
    Where?

Sensing the other's fear, Rose steps up to confront the dark thug. Something of a challenge to see how her friends would react.

    ROSE
His shop is in town. Take a left on
    Sundown, up half a block.

Trying to show Rose that he has no fear Rod leans in as if to confront the driver.

    ROD
    Why do you want Buck?

    DRAGICH
    Fuck you.

    What- want more?

EXT. FROM THE SHORE - DAY

In the distance we see SKIP, a week away from his 16th birthday, waiting to catch the perfect wave heading to the shore. From his board he can see some of the cars leaving following the dark coupe. He swears softly when he sees his friend’s truck following the others. Looking over his shoulder he moves to catch the next wave in to shore.

The boy rides in. Anger crosses his face as he sees Jeff's truck leaving the beach. He is disgusted at the meager wave that takes him toward shore.

From the board we see that only two cars remain on the beach. Don’s Model T Roadster and a ‘50 Ford sedan.

The young surfer nimbly slips off the board, grabs it and runs up to the cars with five of his pals, Dennis, Rod, Rose, Jim and Don.

    SKIP
    Where did Jeff go?

    DON
With all the rest of them headed
across town. That bad dude in the
    dark coupe is looking for
    Buck.

    SKIP
Why? Who is this "bad dude?" What
does he want with Buck? Doesn't that
stupid Jeff know I need the truck to
    get my board back?

    ROD
He didn't seem too tough to me.

    SKIP
Who gives a shit? How am I gonna
get my board back? Jeff’s gone in the
    truck.

    DON
You’ll have to hang it off the back
and hang on tight. Jim will have to
    ride with Dennis and them.

    SKIP
    Shit.

    EXT. CITY STREETS - DAY

We see the COUPE from above followed by a ’54 Chevy mild custom (ROBIN JENKS and BARBARA CRAIG, CLAYTON FILIAN and
ELAINE KERR), ’46 Mercury coupe (CHET CAVALIER and KATHY
FLOOD), ’49 Chevy (CLARENCE BEAVERS, ROZ IMMER, KEITH HARRIS and JOHN BISCHOFF), ’48 F-1 (JEFF TEDESCO) and a ’55 Mercury Wagon (PHIL FILIAN, NANCY HENDERSON, NICK BARBER, JON EITELBACH).

    INT. COUPE - DAY

The COUPE DRIVER’S eyes are reflected in the rearview mirror, glimmering with contempt and malice at the cars that follow him. He sees the street sign --

EXT. COUPE FROM THE REAR - DAY

--and whips the coupe into the quick left turn on Sundown. The coupe accelerates away with a rumble of the flathead’s pipes. The undertones of the coupe's voice, mutters "closer" with a hiss.

Leaning into the turn at Sundown, BARBARA turns to ROBIN

    BARBARA
ROBIN! Slow down! What are you
    doing anyhow?

    ROBIN
We gotta see what this guy’s up to.
He may be looking to fight Buck.
    That's something I gotta see.

    BARBARA
But why? You are going to get us
killed driving like this. You know
where he's going so slow down, please!

    CLAYTON
Awww... he can handle it. Cut down
on that mighty six you're herding
    there, Robin.

INT. FROM THE FRONT SEAT LOOKING BACK.

    ELAINE
I want to go home, please.

    BARBARA
I still don't see why we care about some
greaser hood. Can’t be anything but trouble. And
    who cares anyhow?

    CLAYTON
We do! If he's gonna fight Buck we don't
want to miss it. If he just wants to race...
hell... ahh heck, I mean... we know Buck
    will blow his doors off.

EXT. COUPE AT AXLE LEVEL - DAY

Coupe stops at stop sign. The driver guns it across the street. Braking noisily in front of Baily’s Garage.

Rev’s it up to get the attention of those inside.

INT. GARAGE – LOOKING OVER SHOULDERS OF BUCK AND TERRY

Coupe rumbles noisily as the following cars pull up across the street in the b.g. Buck starts out.

    EXT. LOOKING INTO THE SHOP

    STEVE WALKS UP BEHIND TERRY.

    STEVE
What’s all the noise? What’s Buck
    up to?

    TERRY
    Don't know.

    EXT. GARAGE

BUCK squats next to the passenger side of the coupe. We don’t hear an exchange, but see the anger. Driver steps out, menacing, pointing at Buck. Shouting. Slams back into the coupe and as Buck walks away a dark hand with an extended finger pops from the passenger window.

    DRAGICH
    Coward!

Or was it the chirp of the tires calling out "coward?" Sounds from the pipes as the coupe goes up the hill are evil mutterings... another chirp. Distinctly heard, COWARD!

    EXT. ACROSS THE STREET

Drivers emerge from their rides, girls and passengers follow crossing the street.

    ROBIN
    Buck, Buck! Wait up!

Buck turns. The gang gathers round.

    BUCK
    Hey.

    CLAYTON
Buck, who is that guy? What did he
say? He challenge you? Fight or race?

STEVE comes out of the garage followed by TERRY. They just listen.

    ROBIN
I THINK he’s got another thing
coming if he thinks his old junker
can beat you. What a piece of crap.
    (beat)
    I mean junk.

    BARBARA
Can we get out of here? You’re acting
    like a bunch of kids.

    CLAYTON
So you gonna race him, Buck?

    STEVE
When BUCK races anyone it’s gonna
be on the strip or the track. Street
racing is no good. Just causes a lot
of trouble. We got work to do around
here, so how about taking a break?

    BUCK
    Where's Skip, Jeff?

    JEFF
Oh. I guess he’s still at the
    beach.

    BUCK
    You left him there?

    JEFF
He’s with Jim and Don and some others.

    BUCK
Great. I’ve got to get back to
    work. See you guys later.

    CLAYTON
So will you race him, BUCK?

Elaine and Barbara start across the street to the parked
    cars.

    BARBARA
    Come, children!

    EXT. LOOKING INTO THE GARAGE

Buck ignores Chet and squats down next to TERRY, taking the
bolts from the spring shackles on a truck frame.

    EXT. GARAGE FROM OVERHEAD

The gang breaks up and go to their cars. Engines start and they take off.

    INT. GARAGE

STEVE stands over Buck and watches for a while. BUCK and
TERRY work the u-bolts off the springs. They clamp the axle to an old wooden workbench. They start removing the tie rod and draglink.

    STEVE
I meant it about the street racing,
    Buck.

    BUCK
I know Uncle STEVE. It’s just that
guys are always after you to race when
you get a rep. Shoot, dad was a street
    racer wasn’t he?

    STEVE
Don’t let it get you in trouble. I need
you here in the shop. Let’s hurry up and
get that frame out of here. We’ve got
    paying customers to deal with.

Mrs. Slide and I went to see Iron Man last night... I 'bout came out of my seat when I saw the roadster. I was really surprised how "real" it was with the 2x Strombergs, Pete & Jakes style ladder bars, bias plys, etc.

I like movies that have cool cars in them, but I don't understand cars that have cool movies in them.

Just an awesome flick. Saw it last night, and I have to say, I really feel that I got my 11 bucks' worth. I can't say that about many movies, but Iron Man is one flick that you don't have to make any excuses for, like "Just check your brain in at the door and enjoy the special effects" or "It's a superhero action movie, not a masterpiece" It was thoroughly engaging from beginning to end, easily Downey Jr's best film by far, and just as easily the best film starring any of the '80s Hollywood Brat Pack.

We built that motor here at H&H Flatheads about 3 years ago. I have some pictures of the car before it had flames on it. Laronies in Tujunga,Ca built the car original for Brian Setzer then John Favreau ended up with it. I had no idea it was going to be in there and my wife thought someone was dieing when I was pointing at the screen and had to keep quite in the theater.
