Is there anyone out there that might want to help out a new ford guy with a funny sound coming out of the trans. It only makes noise when shifting from 1st to 2nd all gears pull fine no other problems. Please PM me or give me a call 414-349-5431 thanks Tony

Contact CheaterCarl here on the message board, he can hook you up with any and all parts and or questions related to the grand old ford three speed toploader... he builds them in his spare time.
He is located in Bay View as well.

Last time I was inside one of those old 3 speed top loaders gotta be about 45 years ago, but Lord knows I spent enough time in them in the preceding 10 to still remember a bit about them.
If the noise you hear while upshifting from 1st to 2nd is a bit of a gear clashing/grinding noise, then most likely the br*** ring on the 2nd gear (rear) side of the synchronizer outer hub is worn out and not matching the two dog clutches rpm with each other.
If this has been going on for extended time you may find you have worn out teeth on the matching dog clutch teeth.YMMV
To clarify, when I say dog clutches I'm referring to the meshing of an internally toothed, or splined, collar to an externally toothed, or splined hub.
