What is a fair price for a 1963 or 64 425 factory dual quad complete with all accessory brackets, air cleaner and trans? It's out of an Electra 225 not a Riviera. Miles unknown but was running when pulled 15 years ago and stored in a heated building. Almost certainly would need an overhaul.
Neat, neat motor! Does it turn over? Probably cost you about $1,200 for full re-do, but could be well worth it. Question is...how cheap can you get it for? Good luck!
Well, I've seen just the dual quad setup w/o an air cleaner go for $1500.00 recently. I paid $500.00 for my '61 401 which needed rebuilding, then you say there's a trans as well so, there's definitely some value there.
I just paid $575 for a 425(?) with ******. It has a single 4. The ****** being included is a definate plus.
market... $2k if it turns over and feels good... most of that is intake and carbs... A couple hundred less for a locked up one... '64 is a better deal ****** wise (st400)... '63 would be a dynaflow...
uhhh... no... there may have been some very late 63 ones with a ST400 but I haven't seen one in an actual '63 car....
well, i think the dynaflow had a torque tube rearend, i bought the car for the motor the trans was gone, the rear end was open, buddy of mine looked at the car and said if the car had a dynaflow trans in it ,the rearend would be torque tube rear
Prices are coming down...I watched a 2x4 intake with carbs and linkage (no air cleaner) close on ebay a couple weeks ago for $900 and change. I was VERY surprised, because less than a year ago I missed one at Charlotte for $550, and it went on ebay and closed a week later for over $1500. that recent price could have been an fluke, but the auction end time was pretty decent (meaning everyone watching it could bid on it without ditching work or staying up until 3:42am) If you get the whole engine and trans for $1000, you'd do real well. If you got the whole thing for $1500, you'd still be pretty good. $2,000 is about the most you'd want to pay though. -Brad
nope... torque tube was gone by then, '60 was the last year for it, open drive line dynaflows for 61-63
I went back to talk to him again, he has the posi rear end out of it as well. Definitely open driveshaft. He hasn't shot me a price yet, it's an older friend and two of his other friends also expressed interest and he doesn't want to piss anybody off. I told him whatever he decided was cool with me but I was definitely interested in it. I've known about the engine for at least 15 years but last time I talked to him he wasn't selling. My Stude is parked in one of his storage units right now and I went over to give him my rent and we started talking cars. He told me he had something I'd like to have and took me in the side room of his shop, I knew right away what it was going to be! He's pretty certain he'll sell it but to who and for how much is yet to be determined. If I get it anybody want a Buick 430?
Cad, Olds, Pontiac had open drives in the 30s, just to correct a post above. The trans is worth money if it's the ST400, not so much if it's the Dynaflow, and the crank on the motor needs mods (or maybe to be swapped out) if the car had the Dynaflow, to run a 400 with it.
not as much for the 64 as the 65-66... parts are much harder to find for the 64... crank does not need the be modded, simple bushing and open up the hole on the flexplate...
30's? who pays attention to 30's cars......Just kiddin' Thanks for the heads up and setting me straight there, rustynewyorker.
One of the guys at the shop has a running nailhead (not a 425) for sale with a just rebuilt dynaflow. I had a really sweet 425 2 x 4 set up on a blue 32 I had. Ran great. Check it out on the cl***ics section on my site www.sakowskimotors.com if you like. The car was really nice, but the gl*** body just doesn't get my juices flowing, but the engine set up was sick and pretty fast. I ran it hard. Wil
Yeah Carmen Faso, Bendtsen's, and a couple others.... You'd use the Chevy bolt holes on the 200r4 and not the BOP...
Thanks, I Googled it earlier and came up with 2 or 3. I figured somebody had to. Bendtsen's looked like a nice setup, didn't get to look at pics of the others. I'm at work right now.
If your a boater you could use it for an anchor, if not maybe $25 at the s**** yard . No matter what you do it will not make any power, plus their kind of ugly.
Well, you're en***led to your opinion. Personally I think they are one of the coolest looking engines on the planet and a measly 465 LbFt of TQ is OK with me, I'm not building a race car. But since he won't sell I'll just have to go back to my previous plan which was a Buick 430 or 455. Already have the 430 and got a lead on another 430 and a 455 plus a bunch of speed equipment. I suppose you don't think a Buick 455 can make any power either.............
