well, i'm ready for about a month off. ha ha, i would like to thank all of the people who came out and supported this event as well as pops, randy, sarah, billie, scot hamilton, our pin up girls, speedy, ojai rick, racer brown's family, jill from lucky 11, and everybody else that that worked their *** off on this event. we had a good time, and got to see some real cool nostalgia stuff run. i actually sat down and watched racing, and i havent done that for years. we would have liked to have seen a few more cars and a few more people in the stands, but over all for a 1st time event we are calling it a success, and we are going to do it again next year. for next year i would like to see more show cars, more hamb rails, and more bikes. the tommy cash show was great, and scot with the dreams of legends did an awesome job on the dragracing movie. i didnt get a chance to take very many photos, but i did get up on the line for a few minutes sunday. here are a few of the ones i took. i missed a bunch of really cool stuff, but the staff photographers got everything so there will be a great 5 page feature in the new rod and kulture. thanks again for coming out and supporting us. zombie
HAd a blast buddy,,, thanks for the hookup and i really I MEAN REALLY look forward to the next one... Good times for sure..
The orange 57 chevy is from phoenix and drove all the way there raced and came home. He is a member here on the HAMB and is in the Rattlers car club. Way to go Mike
That was an bsolutely****ing BAD *** event! I loved every minute of it! Getting runner up in E/Gas 11.60 was awesome! Too bad I beat myself on the line in the final! I enjoyed hanging out with Toy Maker and his son and meeting other HAMBers and seeing the HA/GR cars run. I think whipping up an HA/GR car for next year is in my plans... those guys had waaaaaaaaaay too much fun! The fuel altereds were BAD ***... the straight axle cars were BAD ***... the backup girls contest was entertaining (some were in training), Jet cars, wheelstanders... it was all great stuff! About the BEST thing was to see the cars return to the pits on the RETURN ROAD!!! I haven't seen that in YEARS! The crowd really LOVED IT! And it's way cool to shoot revs and dump the clutch on the return road to leave some rubber 5 feet away from people at the fence! Hahahahaha!! They LOVED IT! And I loved doing it! I sure look forward to next year! Sam.
Yea! Mike and his wife drover Thumper out from AZ... layed down some 14's... and then DROVE HOME! It was a pleasure hanging out with him and his wife under our eazy-up in the stands! Got to hang a bit with Jimmy White, Ricky Racer, Justin Greg and Alicia from Livermore, Pat Ganahl, Buzzard "Not that Steve" and his wife and mets lots of others! Sam.
It really was a fantastic event. I can't imagine how different Dragfest must have felt between the spectators and the side of the walkie talkie you were on. Putting out fires all day is no why to see a show. I can't remember the last event I went to and didn't hear someone *****ing about something. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Let me know if you need any help for next years show.
Zombie... Saw you ONCE, climbing into Tommy Ivo's digger. And then you were gone. Amazing effort results in amazing results, at least in this case. Sure, a few more "show cars" would have been nice (as revenue generators!), but on balance? The event was terrific. Impressive by any standard, but as the inaugural event? Fantastic. Great job. Bill
Here's a couple quickies from Sunday... I still need to download my other card... Popular truck: Girls:
and I rode down with Samiyam... I'd say that I pitted for him, but all I did was tighten the header bolts... the car really needs no tuning. and he duffed out in the last round: Which got second place: and he wasn't too thrilled about that: More pics later....
We had a great time! <img src=http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/designisgraphic/greg2.jpg> I think Lazzerini surprised a lot people when running the Gu Hun/Payasos 47 Ford... <img src=http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee254/designisgraphic/greg1.jpg> -Juan
Thank you for the meet. My friends and I had a memorable weekend. The cars & people were great. The fuel altereds were phenomenal ! Do it again. We'll be there. The very fact that the HA/GRs ran will ensure more of'em next time. I know of four (out of seven) that were on hold because they couldn't run and are already back on the building tables. It wouldn't surprise me to see enough of us show up next time to put together a small field. It may've taken us awhile to get'er rolling but California's still the place where things do get built. My thanks to Rocky for taking the plunge and helping the HA/GR promotion.
......Nice coverage of a very kool time........I only wish I lived closer........thanks again. Congrats to all the racers that put it all on the line.
For those of you who didnt come & support Zombie & his Drag Fest Clan......... YOU **** !! LOLOL... But seriously.. This is a GO TO show !!! The car show field was down, But 99% of what showed was very Cool....... Like it was 50 years ago..(i would ***ume) The Swap was small, But if you had some coin there were MANY *****en parts to be had !! Drag Car Field was Very Cool, All the racers had a blast & everything there was what anyone here wants to see. Every thing from '60s Muscle to Alterds, Slingshots, Axle cars, & one Crazy Fast Karmann Ghia.... Screw the V~Dub haters, Nuthin like a FAST VW !!! Lotsa Tasty Girls to look at, Lotsa Greasy Car Guys to meet & talk shop, Vendors, Pit area to get up close with REAL Racers, And above all a FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE !!!! Thank you to Zombie & his Family, Randy Winkle & His crew, Bakersfield for there hospitality.. Stand up people for sure !!!! I got there Friday and helped Lumpy & Kelly get the Hooters booth set up & get a preview of the event... Movies on the drive in big screen was a *****EN addition for this show. Was there bright & Ugly on Saturday, Had a blast on Sunday, Wrapped up my weekend Helping getting the Trophys arranged for Kim to hand to all the Lucky racers !!! GREAT TIME ALL WEEKEND !!
Here's some pics of the Plym Plym... Thanks, Zombie and Randy, with a special thanx to Randy for making me go to the Lincoln trailer and gettin a strap made for my battery. A special thanx to Hooters Energy Drinks for my catch can so I could p*** tech. I had a mic on for the last run for torque tv. I lost to my nephew jimmy in the black 51 chevy "convertible". I was slower than him and for some reason his tree went first. I thought he red lighted but come to find out I just ran to fast. LOL!!! Who woulda thought an 18.9 second car could run to fast but it happend, 18.891. Next year 26-27 t-coupster with a 303 olds, 3-2's, might have to change the 38 olds for a 57 olds rearend after talkin to the rick. Ricky saw in p***ing and said howdy and watched u race, wished we woulda hung out for a bit.
had a great time. was wanting to debut my 1956 plymouth savoy but it was going to be painted sunday morning. will have it there next year.
It was a fantastic Dragfest and I will definately bring the family next year.....I want to thank this absolutely cl***y and beautiful Lady for her help with SmokinDave's photos.
Thank you Randy, thank you Zombie, thank you everyone. We had a blast and will be there next year. Might even bring something to race that Model A Banger. Mike
kornbinder, I tell dave you're gunnin for'em. He might have to put the rearend he had at antique nats two years ago. I think with the other rear he was runnin 20's in palmdale but this one with the hwy gears is killin him. LOL
I think it would be a hoot. Here's whatI had in mind. It's all stock '29 except for the bolt on stuff. Man, I can't wait until next year!!
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! 7200rpm... dump the clutch! Boom! The wheels were up about 6" on one run! I think it was this one!
