NZ Trip....Flathead picture thread.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kiwi Kev, May 5, 2008.

  1. Flathead engines have a huge following in New Zealand, always have had. Kiwis have been running flatheads in their hot rods since the 50's. Thousands of early Fords were sold in NZ so there was a good supply. Speed equipment was hard to come by in the early days so Kiwis made their own. I figure the H.A.M.B. probably has more flathead fans than anywhere so here is a picture thread of flathead engines I saw on my 2 week trip..........

Very cool Kev. My and the wife were looking at your pics from NZ and thinking how much we would love to go. What is that thing on the sixth picture? A turbo?

  5. Many old Fords in NZ met their demise in stock car racing (Jalopies). Now there is a vintage stock car club. Here are a few stock car flatties. Note the big chains and cables to keep the engine from flying out on impact or rollover. Stock car racing is a full contact sport............

  9. How's this for a nice piece of Kiwi made speed equipment? Flathead magneto made by Ron Hogan. Ron made many heads and manifolds in the old days. He was inducted into the Hot Rodders hall of fame by the Scroungers car club at this years Hot Rod Blowout show. Ron passed away last year.

  10. The mag' is owned by Hayden Mitchell. Hayden makes this 4.71 blower intake and dual plug heads....

Wow, some really neat stuff we have never seen before. Where can I get some of that Hagan stuff?

  25. The Hogan stuff is rare even in NZ. Hasn't been made for years. He only made a few magnetos and I think they were different from each other.
