I often look, but hardly find good vintage photos of hot rods and customs in Mexico. It seems like such a good match up to me. I'm talking about the real goods; some greasy old photos of guys across the border at some cantina, just chillin. They have to exist, I know they do, at least I hope they do. So, like this...
That's Ak Miller getting ready for the Pan American road race, probably about 1954. Those dudes aren't chillin' they are getting psyched for the race...
Arpedersen,well...i do live in Mexico and i'm same as you frekin nuts on the mexican old cars raeces, stories and rod stuff... actually have some good old friends which are involved all theier life in REAL hot rodding in Mexio... unfortunately some of the gang died already, including the most ******** guy that you can imagin,Pascal Javier....nicknamed the king of the 34,guess why??? also i'm tryin to collect as many old mexican rodding ,racing pix as i can... don't have much in my hands by now,but i'm workin on.... but i do know the real rodders, and yeah..some great stories for sure.. they still have theier old cars.... unfortunately i'm busy as hell and my actual camera has pix a bit too big to be accepted here, takes to much for me to put all stuff here.. and as you see elsewhere have other threads on... the gang i'm talkin is based in Mexico city area...DF for us...
and yes, these pics do exist..have many on paper, bought also at local flea markets..i collect this stuff, too cool maybe 1 of these days when i got more of em i create a post and show them ...
We were on vacation in Ensenada Mexico1974 w mom-dad-sister. We were at a ALTO sign in the center of town, when two 67 or 8 camaros pull out of the gas station and up to the alto. The crazy ****ers are running drag slicks open headers and tunnel rams. They both leave hard and leave smoke, and im one inpressed 14 year old.
296 V8...cool one!!well, some friend o mine they stil do the same **** nowadays with 427 camaros..and the cops following too. but as you know we can fix anything here with a small mordida, sometimres is not even necessary...the cops tell you go a bit far out to race, not downtown...it happens!!
I believe in Mexico most people think you drive an old car only because you can't afford o new one. On my last trip to Guadalajara I did spot a cherry 32 vicky crusing down the street along with a few A coups and a clean 54 Chevy and a number of clean 60's tin. I hear there a few car clubs starting up aroung older cars. Didn't see any low riders but the sport compacts have a strong following. There is one drag strip, havn't been to any races there yet.
All I know is that in T.J. the cab drivers must get a commition for running down Americans in their VW's.
