    This newbie has a question.

I am planning a to build a 30 tudor. I like the fenderless look but am
curious about the pitfalls. I have spoke with the older builders and younger. One says fenders the other says no way. Please Chime in and help sway my decision one way or the other. Thanks.

My plan so far is to chop. Not to channel.
Frame depends on fenders or not.
    Turn around the firewall.
Exploder rear with chevy truck trailing arms.
    S10 T5 trans.
    Engine?
    36 Ford dash.

I'd recommend running a different rear as well...

If your fenders are in good shape id like to see a good full fender build if not deuce rails and a nice chop will make an amazing fender less Tudor though it will make the build cost more it is aways worth it plus tudor s are not put on deuce rails as often it seams
no matter what good luck on the build and as always do***ent it and keep us posted.

    **** the hood...

    **** the fenders...

    **** the mufflers....

I'm going out on a limb and asking this... You don't have nice original fenders, do you...??? They're pretty difficult to find in any sort of usable shape...

Fenders are a lot of money for something that was usually the first thing to be pulled off to make a hotrod....

Personally, I do think they look better on tudors then they do on coupes, though....

Bottom line, it's YOUR car... **** what everyone else says (myself included)...

Just look at pictures and decide what you do and don't like....

Fenders would help hide that ugly rear end, though....

  6. Its a lot easer to work on underneath w/o fenders.

Thanks for the replys. My fenders need a lot of work. The tudor body needs patches and etc. To far gone for good rat rod material so eventually it will get decent paint.

    My questions on fenderless
Doesnt hitting puddles mud sand etc just spray the hell out of the side of the car, motor, windshield?
I followed a guy down a on ramp in the rain and he must have been throwing a 30 foot high rooster tail off the tires. Does that kill the buzz?

Fenders will help keep those stones, cinders and Minnesotan ice chips away from your $20000 paint job. Also you should check with your state DMV and see what you are allowed to run.

20000 paint job. I will rattle can or brush it before spending that kind of cash.
Thanks for the advice on the DMV. The laws are getting changed all the time. MN. is trying to adopt and p*** the CA. C.A.R.B. law thing. So we will blindly do what ever CA. does.

  10. Fenders, hood top and sides... but only on the drivers side of the car. :)

I prefer fenders on the Tudor frankly... it brings the whole car together better i.m.o. If you don't like the way it turns out you can always take them off later and if they are in decent condition... sell them for dam'n good money.

It's your car... do whatever you want with it... but run everything by the HAMB first for final authorization... first.

I like them both ways but if I had fenders and was building it on an A frame and planning not to channel I would run the fenders. At least for a while, then if you get tired of it, take them off.

You are right about water spray. Even when it doesnt rain lawn watering run off will get you every time you drive it. Oh well I have one of each, enjoy both, just deal with chips and spray. Prep car then buy production paint job. 300.00 around Dallas Tx. area

Is that a 20000 paint job?:D I like it. Thanks for the pic.

Dumb question. Ok prolly a real dumb question.

I really want the fenderless w/32 frame. If I decide that having no fenders is to much of a pain. Could a guy add fenders to the 32 frame. Has it been done? Or would you have to be some kind of
    sheet metal master.

Go with what fires your rocket. My 30 coupe is chopped and channled no fenders. As soon as a 30/31 tudor findes me it will be chopped and full fendered. As for engines the new 4cyl bangers get close to 40 MPG in rods.

Too far gone for rat rod material? HA thats a new one.

I like fendered and fenderless, but in my opinion stance is even more important with fenders. If you are going with fenders, take your time in the planning stage.

  19. There is a middle ground.
Bobbed rear fenders on the rear, cycle fenders up front.
    Very trad and all that.

A couple of different styles of rear bobbed fenders on my 31 roadster on a 32 frame.

I guess it depends on if you are going to run the running boards and side aprons too, the stockers look kind of goofy without them. Kinda pricey to get good ones (either salvageable originals or repops) unless that is absolutely what you want.

FWIW I'm running all that on the 31. I have been looking at maybe replacing the rear fenders with 28-29 rears (The rears I have are gl*** and not holding their shape for ****). From what I see the 28-29s would be a factory bobbed fender for the 30-31, I just haven't checked into how well they would match up with the body (anybody know, I was planning on posting a thread asking that in a while).

I think you already know what you want to do. Why ask for approval? Does it really matter what everyone else thinks?

  24. Originally, in Hot Rodding, the object was to strip as much weight off the car as possible, to make the car go faster, so the fenders and the hood where the first to go.
    I say "NO" fenders.
Plus I think, Models A's look so awesome stripped down.

  25. 28-29 fenders fit the wheel well arc of the 30-31s and vice versa.

They have differing widths - by 1" - and a different bolt pattern.

They do work fine in a bobbed configuration, but won't work with running boards due to the depth of the side apron notch is different.

Along those same lines, it looks like A fenders will work on 32s.

I held one of my A fenders up against the 32s wheel well -but not too close since I didn't want to scratch the paint - and the arc looks very close.

I need to get some masking tape on the 32 and settle the A fender into the wheel well to find out if it is a do-able deal.
Sure looks like it would be.

If it did fit, an A fender would be an economical way out for bobbed fenders on a 32 since gennie steel 32 stuff has beyond crazy prices....

Thanks C9, I figured there had to be a hitch somewhere. Which is wider?

Even a small puddle sprays the windshield and side of the car, yes.

Do like I'm doing . . . I've got a 31 Tudor Hiboy and the next project is a 30 Tudor that'll be keeping the fenders. Best of both worlds. ;)

I vote for the fenders cuz the car looks cl***ier with them plus the safety issues that are mentioned above i.e. rain, mud, rocks, etc.

I also wonder about fenders that are too far gone to put on a "rat rod". I thought that the worse they are the better rat rod they make. They must be a step just above iron oxide maximus.

Anyway, keep us posted as to what you decide and post some pics of your project so we can "approve" it.:D:rolleyes:;)

I'm going without fenders on my 29 Sedan, cause I'm lazy and want to drive it. I do like those bobbed ones C9 showed us, I can always go with that later if need be.
