I have less then $1,500.00 and two months into this so far.

what kind of bug can you build for that?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nice job. Looks like the front 1/2 of a Touring car, 28-29 radiator shell, split wishbones, and early rear end...I am in SoCal, and the Vintage tin you find here, if you can find it, has gotten pretty pricey. Also looks like the back 1/2 of a '33- 34 Fordor in the background... [IMG]

So, lemme get this straight, you've only got $1,500 invested into an almost complete early 20's car? Who'd you have to blow to get that accomplished? I think it all has to do with who you know. Some buddy's buddy has a frame another guy down the block has a body, some people aint got that. They have to shell out some major green to have that kinda stuff. On the other side of the coin, you have people who are enthusiastic about "old school" rods that they'll build one outta any $300 P.O.S. they can find. I dont think it really matters who drives what, just as long as they built it and they are having fun with it! If you can get an A-Bucket on the road for less than $2000, good for you. Now if someother guy cant, cuz finding something like that cheap and close by is nearly immpossible, dont knock him down. Start out by telling him how you've acheived this amazing feat, and how he might be able to duplicate it, thats how us FNG's learn. You "pro's" had to learn from someone, unless you were a born ROD GOD.

personally i'm a VW only kind of guy, and the older the better (BTW Volkswagens were actually british cars until the 1950s when the plant was handed back over to the germans [IMG]) but i'm here because i appreciate how/why you guys do what you do. A lot of the skills/products are 'cross-cultural' now anyhow, for example my ET gasser 10 spokes which came via this here board!

I'm more of old vw race car kind of guy, or 'stealth' looking stuff - after all the only thing that beats spanking a 807234592370295ci V8 off the lights, is beating an asian kid in a plastic jap wagon! all with a 60 year old 4cyl engine design!

I can't believe that this post is still going.
If guy's can't come up with decent intro's or are complete knobs like this guy, I just ignore them.
Is there a way that we can add a "Knobs Online" section to our home pages?

Some people choose to have fun, and not be so damn criticle as others. I am one of them! If you dont like it tough, I'm stickin round for a while. I'd compare myself to OCC's Mikey, I just enjoy ANY type of motor vehicle, and just like to screw around. Dont take me so freakin serious, If you knew me, you'd understand. Y'all are judging me and a few of the other newbies, without even taking the time to know us. You cant know a person by an "intro", which I see no relivance in anywho, cuz most of you out there miss them.
My intro has only been viewed 344 times since I put it up and had only a few responses, to those of which I thank you. How many people are on this board? As far as you longtime hambers are concerned think back 2-3 years, is all this "hazing" really worth it in the end? If you said yes, apparently you werent hazed enough.... I'll get down off this soapbox, fer now

Please do a search with the usersname being "60's style" and you will see the build up ot the $1500 car in question. When you are able to get creative the results are astounding.

Instead of bagging on people you should be asking how can I get that done. There was a great auction for a 28 pontiac sedan that ended at $420 I believe and guess what NOBODY HAD TO BLOW ANYBODY!

    Just and FYI.

    Thanks,

I didnt say it CANT be done I was trying to say that its harder to accomplish for someone who doesnt have the same background, skills and resources, as your self. Clearly, you had a place to work on it, $1500 you didnt need, and the tools to work with, some of us dont, myself included. Every time I look at my grille, in my 3rd floor apartment's kitchen I keep telling myself I will finish this car, somehow. Again, I'll say that, if you "Pro's" would be more understanding, and forth coming with such valuble info(How was I to know to search for such a write up?) maybe we could all just get along...

Please sit down and shut up. I'm sure 60s Style doesn't even know I'm a member here, but I have a favorites file full of his posts. The guy can build a nuclear reactor out of a fuckin gum wrapper.

You are not worthy of licking his dog's balls. You need to bow down at his feet and beg forgiveness for your smack talk.

I've had over 25 Volkswagens in my life. The last one I built (2 yrs ago) I put 3500 bucks into the engine (166 horsepower stroker engine 82x94cc). VW's ain't cheap anymore. They're just easier to find than pre-war domestic parts are.

Every time you come in her checking your messages, you SHOULD be able to read this....."Hokey Ass Message Board Spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and kustoms to greasers world wide...

A good healthy 2276 can put out upwards of 350 hp, and propel a stock weight Bug into the low 10's, 10.06@140.95mph at E-Town, to be exact. But you're right, it ain't cheap.I've got my eye on a '48 or '49 Thames, an old Gasser, still, but, in the meantime, my VW will have to do..unless, of course, I find a nice, cheap, 28-29 Roadster Pickup ;-)
As I've said before, I am not here to try and convert anyone; I am here to "lurk and learn".

Maybe if you stopped being a dick lick, shut your yap for a while and attempted to learn something instead of runnin' yo mouph complaining how bad you have it and how it can't be done, you may just learn how it CAN be done. We are all here to learn, encourage and possibly help. Unfortunately your punk ass attitude is probably making that real hard for you already. I'm sure you were born a "Rod God"...'cept it has nothing to with vehicles.

Trey, I can help0 you with that-

If the website is still up, check out Kurt Mezger's all-steel, full-weight, 1968 VW Bug running the aforementioned 10.06 at 140.95 @ E-town, with a come-from-nehind win over a N2O BBC Camaro, at: www.vintageperformance.net. You can also go to the California Racing Grapevine and watch Kris Lauffer's 2442cc 1965 VW Convertible run a 9.15 @ (I think it was) 137mph. I work for a VW Magazine, and we built a "soft" (low compression, easy on the cam timing, mild P&P heads) 2332 cc engine, that made 352@7,000. An 82x94mm VW engine (2276) with, say an Engle FK-89 cam, about 10 to 1 compression, the heads from Hell, and a set of Weber 48 IDA's, built right, and tuned right, should hit that 350 mark pretty easily. I am not trying to stir up any controversy; just lettin' ya know the answer to your question.

I do read my own posts and they are exactly what I want to say. I have been watching some of the stuff going on here for atleast a year now. The only reason you know I exist is the fact that I voiced what was on my mind. The rest of you can do that, so WTF, newbies cant? You'll see I reg'ed in March but didnt post till June? Why? Cuz of assholes like you! As far as comparing myself to Mikey, I did so IN FUN! You say listen and learn, I'm at a point where I know where to get my info from. This aint the only forum on the net. I'm also big on self teaching. There are alot of talented members here, some I probably have already met and just dont know it. I would love to do nothing more than to just kick back and learn anything I can. Here's the problem, I post an opinion, staight up and unsugar coated, and it seems y'all just gotta pick it apart till you miss what I'm really trying to say, which in turn spurs me on to post a response. You want me to dissapear? then stop feeding me f-in negativity! I'm here for fun, not to be critiqued, on my intro, my attitude, or my personal preferences. Shit, you wonder where my 'tude comes from, look at how many people want me to leave and tell me how'd you feel. Right now I'm not really caring, who likes me and who dont, thats not why I'm here. Rodding isnt a popularity contest, its about expressing who you are, through your cars, and yourself. If you think for a second I'll ever back down, your foolin yourself. You can tell me to fuck off, or you can give me some time, and you'll find out that I'm not such a "dick" after all. I'm just straightfoward, sometimes it hurts me sometime it helps me. One things for sure I aint gonna change just for a few, so's I can fit their mold of "the perfect HAMBer". Like I keep tellin ya, if you dont like me then stop reading my posts. I could tell you to hit the bricks but, unlike you, I'm curious to see what I can learn from y'all.

I show a little restraint until I know who it is I'm dealing with. Another word you might want to familiarize yourself with is respect. Show some.

It's pretty sad you are still going on about this crap days later. I havn't been here because I've been stuck working on a project a work. Don't you have jobs. Have I not been hazed enough. I really havn't been the one doing the shit talking it's all of you. I'm sorry you feel so close minded about "american cars" and Volkswagens are not alowed here. No one was craming them down anybody's throat. The stupid coment about smurfette spitting or swallowing haha pretty funny, I don't know if she does but I know your mom does so shut the fuck up. Yeah, I can go back to my Volkwagen forum because I've never been around a bunch of ignorant bored morons in my life that would make this thread go on 6 pages to bash me as when I was just try fullfill a requirement to be accepted because some other "newbie" was bitching out of line about people signing up and not doing into's. That was the point.
