It was a blast. Great racing, the night time entertainment was cool. that gave people something to do at night. I met a few more Hambers, and caught up with some guys I had not seen in a while. I wish there were more Antique Nats type cars, than high $$ pro cars, but they were all fun to watch. That will increase as the word gets out. The wreck on Sat was pretty bad. I heard someone say "it spun out" Turned to see the car flying upside down about 10 feet off the ground. then a few rolls with parts flying everywhere. I hope he is OK. The swap meet was pretty good for me and others as a seller, even though there were a few dozen sellers. I suggest you guys that do have stuff to sell, make a point to go to this one. The next one will be bigger and better. I cannot wait! thanks again Zombie, and everyone that worked to get this off the ground.
The guy that flipped is ok, my buddy Jim Stewart was racing a 67 nova there and we talked to him, hes next door neighbors with the guy. He walked up to Jim after the wreck and said "well I guess the 56 is gone" Then Jim saw the hulk go by on the trailer. Jim said he was walking around and talking good. You wouldn't believe it looking at the car. nice meeting you Desert Rodder and you too Royal Shifter great time!
One of the Hooters Energy Drink Girls backed up the guy that wrecked friday. He came by the booth after he rolled like 8 times?, and said he was goin to the okie bowl (bakersfield speedway) for some dirt racin. Sunday he came by and said his neck was a little stiff as he was showing me a pic of his car against the rail with the hood about 6 feet above the car. He's ok thou, that's what matters.
This Show Is What Hot Rodding & Drag Racing Is All About !!! All Fine Machines in the Drag Field & Plenty of Race'in All Day !! Though We coulda had a better turn out in the Show area, The Majority of what was in the show were great cars... They had the feel & look of what you might have seen at the track in the Late 1950's. For the most part the Rat Rod's & Fasion crowd had better things to do so the Attitude level was down and the Beer muscles were no where to be found... A VERY LAID BACK ENJOYABLE WEEKEND ! I met Sam, His brother & his bitchen '55.... Very Cool Guys... Met several other people all having a blast... All I can say is this is one of those shows that has the potential to be one of the best if not THE best show of the year... Thank You Zombie & all the effort from the TRK staff .... Make sure Next year is even better !!
The best event I've been to in a long, long time. Great racing, great cars and like what was said earlier, the car show section was small but with quality cars. Zero rock-a-silly attitude to be found. Thanks Zombie for putting this on and I pray that it goes off again next year!
Best show I've been too. Reminded me of when my dad would take me to the events as a kid. There's nothing like racing in the same event as the guys I grew up idolizing(and still do). Here's some pics of me racing my 16 second car against 11's and 12's. Sending the 11 second car home. Sending the 12 second car home. The smile on my face sums up the whole weekend. Thanks Zombie. Can't wait to do it again next year. Oh yeah, I ended up losing in the 3rd round to Jody in the NSA Minor Headache By .1577. He ran a 10.784, I ran a 16.345. It was a great race and if I had to lose to anyone, I'd choose Jody. Great guy, and a great racer.
Killer event. Thank you Randy & Zombie, I hope you made a buck on this one and will be doing it again, and again, and again. Now that frame of reference is self interested of course, but that makes it not one whit less sincere. The number of cars that'd have been perfectly at home at say, Fontana by the ditch or Berdoo or even early at the 'Dale was just beautiful. Sam's '55 alone kicked off several memories (thank you sir). I met so many HAMBers for the first time I can't keep all your site names straight, and not a dork in the lot. Each and every one of you I met is someone I'd have been pleased to know then as well. Thanks for the pictures Ratbone, you certainly are good at it (though I wish I could've worn my old open bell rather than that claustrophobic chin squeezer ). You're shots of the open wheel five window flattie 8 and the 'bone powered open wheel pu that kept staging together, that deep rib flattie sling shot and a couple others are already secure in my private "attitude refresher" album. Gentlemen, lets do this one again ............
If you weren't at Dragfest, you missed out on the best event, Period. The best description I heard from several old-timers is that it reminded them of the first Hotrod Reunion, except better.
I posted these on one of the other dragfest threads. I broke out against my nephew in a 51 chevy "convertible". My time was 18.9 and ran a 18.891 so that kinda sucked. LOL!!!
Miss Dragfest 2008 The convertibles blasting down the 1/4 mile were cool. Good event. Sunday crowd was thin, but a good group. Good racing. More show cars. More AA/FA.
Gang We had a blast putting on the show. Hope the check is in the mail as my credit card is busted. Its a long tow from Seattle but we are racers and would not miss a jig like this. I hope there is a next year as there was not enough cars or fans to break even. Randy Bradford "Bradfords Nitro Nostalgia AA/FA
