Okay, I'm trying to start the 'Cuda and the ignition doesn't want to cooperate. The points are clean and gapped, all the connections are clean. There is power through the coil to the points. I ran a hot wire to the coil and cranked it. No spark. I disconnected the coil wire and hooked it to a plug against a ground...No spark. I connected and disconnected the power to the coil...No spark. Sounds like a bad coil. 1.5ohms from (+) to (-) 9.76 K-ohms from Hot lead to ground. Sounds about right. Should it have battery voltage at the hot lead? That just sounds wrong to me.
You have to take the coil off to check it with a multimeter. 9.76K is about right for either of the terminals to the coil wire. You also need to check the resistance between the two terminals themselves this resistance should be low. Like, less than one Ohm. If the resistance is higher between the two wire terminals it's probably faulty. Just spent all day messing with a motorcycle and three bad coils (it's hard to get Italian coils so I'm tryin' some old ones I have). All three are bad, and I'm seriously thinking about going back to cars.
did you check the ballast resistor ? a cracked or burned ballast resistor will have the same symptoms.
