Hey, Im young..only 15, most of the kids my age cant drive getting all the laws changed and all that. Thats not why im here though, Yesterday one of my bestfriends was in a car crash and should have been killed. It is a miracle that she is alive and with us today. She was on her way to pick me up for school. She was on a state road out in the country, coming down a hill a animal ran out into the road and she went to avoid it and didnt see the other car coming in the other lane (around a slight bend) and swerved back into her lane (killing the animal) she hit the brakes and slid into a ditch rolling the car anywhere between 5-8 times right between 2 telephone poles. She landed upside down, there was a gas leak and the car almost caught on fire. The only reason she is with us today is because of her seatbelt. anything different and she would have been dead. I was going to be in the car in about 10 mins too. If it happened when i was there i would have been killed. Its a scary thought. Believe it or not, she walked away without a scratch and even got to school for a chem test. It was a miracle theres nothing else i can say. PLEASE PLEASE WEAR YOU SEATBELTS AND DRIVE SAFE!!!
and make sure you run over animals,i drive a semi, and see it all the time.people trying to dodge a rabbit, and get in a wreck.glad your friend was ok,here is a pic of my truck, drunk driver pulled out in front of on the highway
Glad shes O.K. But her car is WAYYYY out in the field, Do they know how fast she was going ? I dunno about the kids there, But the Young'ins here in So.Cal. think the speed limit is 95mph.... At any givin time !! Sure wish they still had Driver Training in High School & play RED ASPHALT, That movie showed ya what REALLY happens when ya get in a fatal wreck..
yah it is wayyy out there..she rolled about 7 times we think, she was doin about 60-65 cause she was goin down a slight hill, but alway drives the speed limit which was about 55 or 60 on the road
glad to hear she (and you) are ok,my son just missed a bad one also,he worked late that nite ,was gonna be in a friends car that wrecked and his friend lost his life...,you never know when your time is up!! be careful out there
I'm glad to hear your friend is OK and that you dodged a bullet. Live and learn.......the softest thing you can hit with your car is the animal that just ran out in front of you. Never swerve and alway brake reasonably and in a straight line....or hold your line if your in a corner. -Bigchief.
Just be glad shes o.k. !!! And You werent in there ! I always have a bad feeling when my Daughter is out driving around. I raised her in Hot Rod type cars and taught her very young to respect your vehicle, the other, & the road. Tought her to drive stick in an early VW, First car a '62 Falcon & now driving a '55 Ford 2dr Town sedan... All Stick cars. But i still worry 'Bout this stuff.
Looks like a Buddy Holly plane crash, Golly! That's pretty lucky.. I always wear a seatbelt, my mom made me wear a football helmet when I joined the chess club..
My son is 12. We love animals. But I've told him time and time again, if an animal runs out in front of you, go ahead and lift off the gas, but under no circumstances do you ever swerve to avoid it. EVER. It's unfortunate, but I've hit people's pets, and I hate it. But there's no way some lose dog or cat is worth me not being here to finish raising Boy Wonder. So, our advice to you, Grasshopper, is this: Obey the speed limit. (That's more than a 60mph flip there, after plowing through a ditch), don't talk on your cell phone while you're driving, and never, ever swerve to avoid an animal in the road. I'm sincerely glad your friend is okay. -Brad
I know of several stories where someone tried to avoid an animal or something else in the road, went off and ended up with someone getting killed in the wreck. Like has been stated, plow through it and try to stop. what ever damage you sustain is far better than the other result. Glad to know that everyone is ok. I bet she doesnt take that road very fast in the future.
Some times you can't win for loosin'. Several times in southern Illinois vehicles hitting deer and the deer goes through the windshield and kills people in the car.
Kill the animal. Run it down. Stay in your lane. I work as a street medic. Trust me, no good has EVER come from trying to save an animals life.
Is that like a street performer? You have a cardboard stand and do surgeries in the alley? Just kidding! I know what you mean. I bet you see some ugly stuff. I saw a guy swerve to miss some quail yesterday and he almost rolled. That girl is lucky. If she had hit the car head on, she would be dead. Most people out here in nowhere die because of high speed. Being drunk, high, or on the phone just adds to it. Almost every day there is a fatal, usually more than one. Be safe people!
Here in Oz its illegal to swerve for animals. And for good reason. Seat belts save lives. Saved mine once.
Don't hit the brakes when you see a deer--nose dives, cuts the legs out from under it and rolls the animal right up thru the windshield into the passenger compartment, then proceeds to kick the heads and chests of anyone in the front seat. A guy at my local parts store here in GA hit one like that a couple months ago in his VW Bug. It cleared the hood, but not the windshield and roof. When he got his senses back, he bailed out of the car (now stopped), because one of his customers got kicked to death just like that a few years before. After the medics bandaged his head, the cop came up to him and said "Are you SURE it was a deer? Because we don't see a blood trail or anything--there's no signs of an animal anywhere." He looked at the cop and said "Look in the car. It's sitting right there in the front seat." Fortunately, deer are smaller down south! Shame, too--it was a really nice Bug. Totaled it. -Brad
Grateful she is alive and hopefully recuperating to full health. You're right, it is a scary thought; a thought worth remembering. The rule ingrained in me over and over when I drove bus professionally in the mountains (tiny roads and VERY deep ditches): unless its a human or bigger than a bear, don't twitch, blink or swerve, hit it.
Later this evening go outside and look into the heavens. As my old friend used to say "say a word to him". Your lucky. I've been at a lot of car wrecks that the car looked much better than that and we worked a as we called it a signal 18..
We all drive cars, and some of us do unsafe things while driving without knowing it. A young guy was talking about his friend that almost died, but came out unscathed. He, or anyone else's kid or parent, friend, etc, could be in that same spot at any time. If you are here for a while, you will see that we are a huge extended family that actually gives a shit about others. You can go back into your cave and play with yourself, since that seems to be the one you love.
The last time in my life that I have swerved for an animal. Swerved for a man but he was .37 and I was .00 didn't work out for him but that is a story for a different time.
I know what it's like to flip a vehicle. it is not fun, especially when you're in the hospital for four months and will never walk again. I even lost a testical from the acccident. I was driving a 1967 Chevy C-50 dump truck down the driveway at my Grandparent's farm. The driveway is extremely steep and my brakes weren't working too good so I relied on the trlansmission to stay in gear to keep the speed down. Well the trans kicked out of gear and I started going faster and I tried to put it back in gear but It would not go in. As I picked up more speed, I opened the door to try and jump out, but the truck was going way to fast. As I came near the road, I cut the wheel to the right to try and get on the road. Well the door was still open and the force of the turn ejected me from the truck and I skipped across the road and landed in a ditch. The truck started flipping and either the rear tires hit me or the top of the dump bed. I cannot remember which cause it happened so fast. I was hit in the lower part of my stomach and pelvic region. I was split from my belly button all the way around my ass crack. I shattered my pelvis and broke the top part of my right femur(thigh bone). I also detached my spinal column from my pelvis and had some road rash. i was air lifted to Erlanger medical center and on the way I died from massive blood loss. I was revived and was rushed to the operating room. While I was in there I died again and was revived. I was the worst trauma case to ever come into this Hospital. It was a miracle that I am still alive today to enjoy the H.A.M.B. I no longer have an ass crack or ass hole cause they sewed them up, I have a permanent colostomy bag (took three tries which almost killed me) I have a place on my upper, right thigh where I had to have a skin graft due to tissue loss from major infection, my tail bone and femur were screwed back together and I no longer have the front portion of my pelvis. It was shattered so bad the docs just removed it. as I mentioned earlier I lost a testical and my bladder ruptured and I have a super pubic catheder coming out of my stomach so I can pee. I have severe nerve damage to the lower half of my body. I can only move a couple toes and flex my quads now. that is the only movement I have in my legs. Hopefully in 2 or so years I will be able to have a steel plate put in my pelvis so I could possibly stand to help move around a little bit. Well sorry for the long story. Please pray for me to get well and get out of this hospital. And by the way, I'm only 18 years old. - Jake Bloodworth
My grandma hit a moose once going about 40. Totaled the car, Moose just got up and walked off like nothing happened.
I got plenty of time to hear your story dude. When it takes that much guts just to go on........I can spare a few minutes for ya!
