I've been looking for a while now and can't find a site, etc. that shows pictures of the paintings on the WWII bombers and other planes. I've seen some on hot rods that look great but, I'd like to find a site that shows the paintings on the original planes. Since a lot of Hambers are into the old planes, I thought I'd throw this up here and see if anyone can steer me in the right direction. My other question is this: do you think it would be disrespectful to paint one on your hot rod? I want it to be a tribute to the airmen that flew the planes and would like to duplicate an original painting but, I don't want to offend anyone especially if the plane was shot down and airmen killed. What do you think?
you could copy an original if you want. I view it as paying tribute. This site will keep you busy for awhile. http://www.b24bestweb.com/ On our projects, I always design our own nose art from scratch to tie into the owner, the car, etc. Nose art was for personalizing the aircraft, and I try to do the same thing with the nose art we put on our cars that are appropriate to have it. Also you have to be mindful of the nudity too. What is acceptable on a machine of war isn't always appropriate for stateside use. I have dealt with that first hand on the B-24 project I worked on last year, and also on P-51 project I am working on currently.
I think it would look cool, as long as you didn't get carried away with the size. try and get it in proportion to your car and where you're going to put it. I have a decal of a devil girl on mine and the size is just right. I'm getting her name painted on later. Miss Behavin'.
Wow, I didn't know there was an entire art form dedicated to "Nose Art" and I'd never heard that phrase before. That's why I love the HAMB. I think I already spotted the one I want. My Dad was an MP in WWII and Mom worked at Boeing Aircraft. I remember watching them dance when I was a kid in the late 50s early 60s. There was this one tune by Glenn Miller that they loved to dance to(the title is a secret for now) and I found a "nose art" piece that just reminded me of all that and will look great on the A. Thanks guys.
Go to Google. Type in "nose art". click on "go". Go top the top left corner of the page, and click on "images". You will get many pages of pictures.
