So I'm out and about in Central Florida and this is sitting in the guys yard. It was last licensed for the road in 1997. The wife insisted her husband will never sell, but then again, I don't know that he's had an actual cash offer. The guy paid $7K years ago before letting it go to seed in their yard (for the last ten years). Mostly solid, it appears to be a '29 with newer wheels, has the rumble seat and cowl lamps.

Soooooo, how much do you think would be a fair offer? $2000? $2500? 7000? Clue me in.

looks pretty much all there. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

but like i wrote, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay

Is that a Galaxie back there in the ditch, or a Chevy?

It looks like a 30, but I can't see the visor very well.
Three years ago I paid $3500 for my 99% rust free body (only) with title................If there is very little rust I'd offer the guy $5k cash. Just depends on how badly you want the car. It looks realy nice and if it were in NorCal I'd be over there with $6k........start at $5 and keep going up until I reached my limit.
Body alone without major rust is a good $3/4k and the fenders if in good condition are worth another $1k.
    Love those A Coupes!

How do you tell the difference on these. It looked like a '29 to me because of the bumpers. Is the visor the telling point?

The visors on the 28/29 are the same, the 30/31 were different also. The 28/29 have a "boxie" look, while the 30/31 are more rounded.
Was the roof filled or am I just not seeing the fabric top because of the camera angle.

I'd go $5K and I'm a cheap SOB. I'm sure there are many that would go more.

It's a 1930 with 1929 front bumper. Those are not correct '30-'31 cowl lamps either..........

  14. Take $8000, and offer $5000.

    Looks like a nice one.

Tell him you'll take the Falcon as well. You will sell that in a heartbeat, and package deals always work out for you.
Oh, talk to his wife about buying both. She will prod him along.

look at the cowl thats the easyest way to tell. id say 5000. to about 6500. if you get it for less than that you got a heck of a deal!! just check and see how much bondo is on it looks almost to good to be a fl. car

The easiest way to tell the '28-'29 from the '30-'31 is the cowl. When looking at the car from the side, the '28-'29 is curved, while the '30-'31 cowl is flatter...........Woody

it has a 30 grill shell b/c the top is all stainless and the crank hole is tied into the surround thats 1930 only. also an early 30 will have a oval speedo late 30-31 have round speedos. 30's also have a raised pad around the hood louvers like that one dose.

The car in the picture has a '30 radiator shell. Some special bodied earlier A's (Murray) had cowls like the 30-31 even though they were 28-29.

Here's a website that has pictures and text to help tell the differences among the four years

I didn't get that good a look at the car. Her husband wasn't home and I didn't want to be pushy. I don't know the origin of the car. The interior looked all original, including the cob webs, but I didn't open the doors or the hood. I was told I could offer him a million bucks and he'd turn me down, but I was told most just asked if he wanted to sell it. I'm hoping money will shake it loose. The car should have a title since it was registered and driven before he (ran when) parked it.

Based on the grille shell, I'd agree it's a '30.

As for trying to buy the car, they are both 'older', so you never know. Even if I can't pry the car from him now, I'm hoping to be the first one called when the time comes. While I wish the gentleman no ill will, we don't live forever.

I took the politically correct route and said I wanted to restore it :D . I'm hoping to use the idea of 'seeing it on the road again' will get him to let it loose. They bought the Falcon new, so I think there is some senimental issues that shouldn't be there with the 'A'.

30's also have 2-piece splash aprons............I think you won't need any more posts telling you what year it is.

If he says no, keep calling every few months. You might wear him down or if they suddenly need money or have a change in health you might be first on the call list. Good luck man. Looks like a beauty.

Id offer 6k-7k maybe he would just rather have a pocket full of cash than yard art.

  25. Go to seed? you've never seen an ok or bad model A.

I'd be careful if its an older resto, some of those "mint" restored cars are mostly bondo and newspaper, or chickenwire.

Very true. This car sold for $16.5K a few weeks ago at an auction I was at in MN. I dont know if that was a fair price or not (dont know what a stocker is worth). I do know that the fenders had very thick bondo in several places and the paint was so-so.

If he says no, u might stick around and ask him questions about it, so you can build a repor and I would go back and just visit every once in awhile. Along with getting some cool history lessons listening to an old timer it will help secure your chances later. I met an old timer that has an old t speedster that he raced and its not for sell yet, but I keep going back and learned alot about his war time etc etc. and the other day I was told I have a good chance of getting the car.

Thanks for everyone's reply. I have to drop off paperwork out there today, so I'll see what happens.

  29. I've got my lunar exp gps system tracking it as we speak. As soon as I find it I'll tell you what took to buy it!!!!! On a more serious note,if this cat paid 7k for it years ago he probably knows what it's worth today>>>>.

If he's sitting on it, it isn't because he's wanting to lose money on it to sell it. If he gave $7k for it, I'll be willing to be that it'll take at least that to talk him out of it.
