Problem: daily driver---'84 Chevy K20, 350,TH400, 4.10:1 gears = about 11 MPG. 60 mph and she's spinning 3000rpm. Obvious solution: OD ******. I also much prefer a stick shift to an auto and have everything I need to convert except the ******. anybody know what I can use with my 208 transfer case In this truck? Starting in '88 they made a million of 'em with 5 spds. but the transfer cases run the front driveshaft on the left side of the truck. '87 and back it's on the right, and I've been told the transfer cases won't interchange. Is there a way? Please help.

two solutions, either install a 700R4 or put a road gear like a 308 in it. Either will get you up to about 15 mpg. Over drive ****** is the way I would go. You'd have a killer launch with the low 1st gear.

I know a 700R4 is the easy way to solve my problem, but what fun is that? I really want to go standard. As far as the gears go Ive had no luck finding anyting better than the 4.10's for this 3/4 tonner. 1/2 tonners have more choices.

You forgot to mention tire height...that affects RPM also! Taller is more better.

Yeah, It's got 265/85 R16's which are about as big as the orig wheels want.
