I'm working on two rods that need steering column help. First my '47 ford sedan is going to be floor shifted and it 's got a rack and pinion. The stock column was destroyed when I got the car. Second dad's '32 three window has a tilt chevy van column in it that needs to go. The car is pretty period perfect, same paint as was on there in '58. The '32 needs a column shift and it's got a vega box. Let see some pic's.
This is what I am using in my '31 A, not sure if it is what you are looking for but it is a nice column... http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/2042,581_Hot-Rod-Steering-Columns.html they have others too, with column-shift....
The 40-48 Ford P***enger Cars have an easily adaptable column which includes a simple column shift mechanism. They were the columns of choice in the early days. Why? Because they were available cheap, looked good, and worked well.
If you need the column shift then period correct would be the 40/48 Ford. I have an automatic in mine so I went with the LimeWorks 1-3/4 column and a floor shifter. Also enclosed a couple of pictures showing the Vega box/U-joints/double D shaft. The U-joints are splined on the Vega box side and steering shaft.
Stilkruzen do you have any pics of the column in your car? Chopped coupe I like that a lot. Where did the banjo come from? -Joel
I don't yet... the column will be going in this next week... I will post some pics once it is in... I do have a mock up pic... probably not much help, but it will give you the idea...
