anybody have a shortened station wagon with the middle doors taken out? My Dads friend had a 57 Chevy shortened with a 283 and it would almost pull a wheelie and i just saw a 56 Chevy at a swap meet that was shortened. Was this a common thing to do? Any body have pics?
if i remember right there used to be a pastel purple 57 chevy that was shortened here in bakersfield have not seen it in a long time though..definetely looks funny
It has been done for a long time, I think the first ones I saw were when my uncle took me to the Yellowstone Rod run in about 1973
What's not to love? When I see one of these I always picture the little guys working underground in Phantasm driving one.
now that one doesnt look that bad the one i had seen looked bowed...meaning when you looked at it from the side the roof had a big arch in it made it look funny
those things are so ****ed up! We had a customer with one..........folks forget when you move the *** end forward that the ackerman changes...........felt like you were steering it from the back bumper! Scary dumb ****. (John if you are reading this I still like you, your car is an abortion tho)
I like those little shorty wagons. The guy the owned the little mechanics shop down the street from my Grandma had one. It was a 55. It had a 3.73 posi, a 4 speed, and a 327. It would pull a wheelie easy. Even with a couple of guys in the front seat. The car he had before that one was a VW van that was even shorter. He's drive it in the big parade every year here and do wheelies the whole time. He could wheelie the van for a block or two at a time doing parade speeds without killing anybody. People loved that thing too. PS Lots cooler than a marching band.
Pastel Purple ???? Gay???? I'm seeing a pattern here !!! I agree it just ain't right... be like seeing Jesse James in a pair plaid pants, polo shirt with a swaeter around his neck. hehehe
Damn it Chadillac, not only does your user name make me laugh everytime I see it, but you write the awesomest ****.
It would look better if the wheel wells were moved further rearward. More proportional I think. Either that or they need a little bit more sheet metal between the door and wheel well. It could be cool.
I saw a '57 shortened sedan on the way back from Dewey this past weekend. I'm sure it could be bought. I didn't stop.
I'd bet the ackerman is better than alot of cars on here though....esp. cars with the tierod in front of the axle.
SHORTY'S ROCK!!! back in the late 60s and the 70s these were every where...........I'd buy a nice one in a heartbeat....no pun intended
Well that orange 56 is by far the best looking one of those I ever saw, it still ****s though. Does anyone remember many, many years ago the mag article about a 52-ish chevy slopeback that had been shortened? They used the back doors instead of the fronts, it was actually kind of neat looking. Looked european in fact I think the article was comparing it to a Ferrrari
I remember these around the mid to late 80's. I've always hated them. About as cool as de-chromed hot rods with lots of that pastel splash paint and some sort of eurowheel rolling stock..Truely offensive. Honestly, if someone was wanting to alter the wheelbase, I'd rather see wagons stretched out. That could be kinda cool.
Theres one that runs around Ventura, see it all the time. Always makes me giggle. Besides, size doesnt matter, right?!
