Hey, does anyone know of anyone in the pacific northwest that could rebuild an engine for me? I found a 64 425 nailhead, and I am just looking at a stock rebuild. I have most of the parts available.minus one piston. What is the average cost of a rebuild for a nailhead?

I have been looking for a nailhead for a while, I finally found one so now I can make the car period correct. I have a 74 455 that I am going to throw in until I get the 425 rebuilt. So It doesn't need to be ASAP.

High Performance Engines in Burnaby, BC (part of Vancouver) builds nailheads, hemis, flatheads. Talk to Dave Childs...his dad; Bud, started the business 40 years ago.

Hagen's in Puyallup.....right on River Road...I've heard they ain't cheap though.
Or try Waterhouse Motors in downtown Tacoma, a block off Pacific, 383-1439....talk with Ed or Brian. Good guys, do alot of vintage engines.
Most machine shops send all their crankshafts to Waterhouse.

You might want to call Cope Brothers, 253-531-1776. Cantakerous old guys, but top of the line in my book. Mostly into roundy pounders. Not cheap either, but very good. They have helped me out in the past very well. Maybe Sinister can tell you more about them. Been 10 -12 years since I have talked to them.

I don't think Cope bros are around anymore.....at least not at the location on Pacific in Parkland....there's a NAPA there....along with an appliance store.

Yeah, used to be Pochel Auto Parts, the Ed sold out to some of the Big Wheel managers. Then a few years later Dennis sold out to the manager/owners. Then they sold it to NAPA. At that time Cope's was in the back of the Pochel/Big Wheel warehouse. The appliance store was ther when I worked at Pochel. Like I said I haven't talked to them in years, still in the phone book @ 14011 Pacific Ave.

My dad has been building vintage engines for 35 plus years. He can do it no problem. PM me for his number if you want.

I just recently met the crew from this racehouse in Tacoma. Across the street from Pro/Max on So. Tacoma Way. Next door to the old Burger joint. They run a couple of Extremely FAST prostreet cars at the Drags in the N.W. One is a Pro Mod S-10(blue). Can't remember their shop name. they do motors. real cool guys. Check em out. B

there are options listed above, I'd say RaceFab so far... or take it down to Russ Martin in Nor Cal... If you choose anyone else whatever you do, do not try and install hardened seats in the heads. It does not need them since there is such low spring pressure and a high nickel content to the castings. They are way close to the water jackets as well and can easily ruin a good set of heads. There are a few things that are a little peculiar about the motors but they shouldn't be to hard for someone that will take the time to research it a little bit.
