I have the opportunity to buy a 55 caddy. still has the original V8. Batwing and all. Just curious what size it is and how it would perform in comparison to a dual quad 283 sbc. Ratty55
I believe '55 still used the 331 and the 365's came out in '56. I'm sure one of the Caddy guru's will chime in with more accurate details.
I was curious about hp. Anyone know what range? I currently have a 283 that i had rebuilt and i wanted to compare the two.
For '55, the Caddy 331 4bbl puts out 250 HP @ 4600 at 9:1 CR. Torque was 345 @ 2800. Eldorado dual-quad 331 was good for 270 HP.
The 331 in my 55 Caddy moves it along just fine!! The 331 probably has more torque then the 283, **** maybe even more h.p. Jimmy White
55 is the last year of the 331 but it's also the first year of the short bellhousing. The early cads 49-54 are the best engines in my opinion because you can bolt a Lasalle or a early hydro trans right up to them.
the cadillac gods will hate you if there is a small block chevy in there as will all the cadillac guys . just figured id let you know how importan t it is. .they are great motors man i had one in my 55 .not a wink of trouble put 40 k on it before i sold it.
