I have a 70 Chevelle master with booster that is set up for disc/drums. I know you have seen the way they mount up at an angle on the firewall rather than parallel to the ground like every other car. My question is would it be feasible to switch this master cylinder for the corvette master since the corvette is disc/disc? My major concern is would it affect the operation of the corvette's master cylinder if it is tilted at the same angle as the Chevelle's considering that the corvette's is parallel to the ground at normal operation?
you can''t change to disc disc if you don't change your drum brake system. You can however change the drums to disc and use that same master cyn. The only problem you might have is the stroke lenght of the pedal. (but rod can be modified) to work. I just put a 76 chevy pickup master cyn. on a 47 sedan deliv. with a Jeep power booster. Crazy but works great.
I know that. I thought that the ***umption was that I am switching over to disc/disc. If this is not obvious, I am switching over to disc/disc. Now with this said, does anybody else want to tackle my original question? Will the disc/disc corvette master cylinder work at the angle of the Chevelle power booster?
You can use the chevelle m/c and just remove the check ball, usually just take a sheetmetal screw and screw it into the check valve and pry it out.
Would that really work? I thought that one side of the master pushes out 2 pounds for the disc in the front and 10 pounds for the drums in the back. I think I understand where you are going with this though... Removing the check valve would equalize the pressures... Would the pressure then be too much for disc or not? Has anyone ever done this? If so, what was your platform, what was the equipment you used, and was it successful?
The 2 pounds is only if the master is mounted below the level of the brakes ,to keep fluid from draining out of brakes and back to master.I know many people that have done this.
