Ever since Detroit and seeing the Atomic Punk, I cant get the idea of a bubbletop out of my head. I know its impractical, seldom used and expensive to build, but for some reason it wont go away. I decided to combine my woodworking skills with the project and create a bubbletop woodie. The nice thing about The Strange Days gang is they will ALWAYS take a foolish idea and run with it. The minute I mentioned it, the whole crew was there with input. John Detrich who did the Thunderpig artwork and all the design work on the Finkosel started sending me quickie concept sketches... I love these. Sombody please stop me before I piss away all my time and money.. Fritz? Moriarity? Aaron? HELP!
Chaz, Girls like the look and feel of a big "Woody" car that is!?! So, who's gonna build it?!? Details...details?!
oh...Im in the process of building my Woodster..haha.. finkwood .. the car will be based on the old AMT 3 in 1 kits where you can change the body style by removing and adding different sections..so from bubbletop to open tub to T-top.. If I didnt destroy my right hand ( watch out for 80 old drivers) it wood of been near completed.. ..funny I wasnt going to post till the car was pretty far along.. woodguy
You're not the only one that Plowboy gave the bubbletop bug to that wknd. Vic now wants to do the Golden Sahara II. Roll with the idea, its so crazy it just might work.
I like how the Roofline echo's the shape of the Fins in the top one. A lot... Maybe just a little lower, though...
I agree with that being probably just about...AWESOME!!! I know you were probably looking for "sensible" responses, telling you it was silly and such. Too bad. I hope you're keeping track of the votes. So far I have 0 for not building it.
To hell with being practical, Why wonder how cool it could be when you can build it and show everyone how cool it is. Go for it man, Besides the surfboards on the roof may just cut some of the greenhouse effect.
I have a special spot right in the middle of the Extreme Autorama for a "Bubble Top Carosel" Build it Chas with your talent it will be nothing less than stellar.
Build a 1/4 scale model . That will answer a lot of things questions on building and maybe you'll get it out of your system before any damage is done
You are going to build a bubbletop, whatever. Bubbletops are stupid. You won't ever do it. You can't make one drive. You can't afford one. Chromed out show rods are a waste of time and money. There, I hope I gave you the same support and inspiration that I received. Ha Ha Ha Go for it!
I noticed that the concepts are "show rod" style. Are you wanting to do that or are you going for a 40's pulp magazine style which would be more like ,say a chrysler town&country with a boat tail and a bubble top?
The artwork by Scotty was done in 2002. He did a full set of drawings and coloured artwork, followed by a scale model. I built a ch***is with Alloy V8 and auto in mid 2002, but work on customers cars took priority. The ch***is was dismantled and stored, motor and box was sold some time later. Gave the ch***is to a mate for another project last year. But have just designed a new ch***is, and want to restart the project by the end of the year.
this looks like a heck of a start! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3APIC&viewitem=&item=120259931955&rd=1
