  1. Got the chance of doing a straight swap from this

  3. what do think, the 55 has no engine but is solid and the 51 is a non runner with a busted front spring.
Which is the most desirable model if I wanted to move one on.

  4. I'd keep what I have if I were you.

  5. I like the 51 myself but YOU have to like what you get.

    Man,
thats a tough choice. They would both make great rides.
Its up to personal preference on this one I think....

One thing that might make a difference to you though is the fact that the 55 has an open drive line while the earlier model does not (I think). But really they are both very simple vehicles and parts are PLENTIFUL for both of them....

    Good luck.

I like the chevy better, personally. And on your side of the pond I would think the chevy is harder to come by, correct me if I'm wrong. But you're the one that has to look and drive it everyday.

The first thing is, which one do you like the looks of better? The second would be the condition. If both are pretty equal in that dept. then go on to what do you want to build? The '51 would make a cool shop truck but I think the '55 has more potential if you wanted a custom.
Not a bad choice either way.

I like the earlier truck, my father drove a '50 GMC when I was a little guy in the sixties. Tri-fives are everyplace here in North America and are just plain boring. Try to go to a run or show and not see one of these things. They are kind of like flys on a dairy farm & to me just as attractive. Of course I'm a FoMoCo guy, so I might be slightly biased. Flatheads forever......cheers!

The one with glass in it, (if it's good, can't tell from the pics) is more likely to see the road running, quicker, unless you or your brother are glass installers or already have the glass.

I stand retarded. Yes indeed they are both chevies. I should be caned. I need to pay attention more and not be in so much a hurry. I looked quick at the pic, and missed what I was looking at. Flog me now, please. [IMG]

I have to go with the DR on this one. I always loved the 55-59 bowtie trucks. I see more of the 54-older than the 55-59.

    Just curious,
Which one did you think wasn't a Chevy?
Or were you only thinking of one of them at all?
    If so which one? [IMG]

Mmmmmm tough call, dont know if this will help, but Im going to clip mine, so you could have the axle ect out of that one.
The 51 makes a good partner for Daisys truck, but the 55 would make a sweet custom.
Are you OK for me to collect the other one on Saturday ?

    Cheers Pete

get the 56 its already set up for 12 volts and most any chevy drivetrain will bolt right in there, will have to do some modifications on the transmission mount if you went automatic though, looks to have good glass as well [IMG]

I looked at the pic real quick, and by some nasty twist of my delusional mind I mistaked the newer chevy as a later modeled Ford. It was a really stupid mistake on my part, especially saying above all else I missed the big ole bowtie.

Dude, alzheimer's can't set it at 28, can it? [IMG]

    I dig the Chevy....

Ok I like the second series (55) better personally, but then the 58-59's are my favorites period. But it's your decision. Thought the '55 looks to be ready for a motor....

Yeah, I'd go with the 55/56 truck. I just think they look cool.

The earlier ones have a real high bubba factor, though, plus you can really stretch that post '48 cut-off for show registrations (No, seriously, it's a late '47 model, they had just come out with it, no kiddin'). [IMG]

Hell, just get both of 'em!

I said 56, I think its really a 55 with that stubby hood chrome, my 55 didn't have no signal lights/park lights on the front so I just blurted out 56! [IMG]

I will be in all day Saturday Let me know what time your planning on arriving.

Decisions Decisions just can't decide on this one. I think the 55 could be on the road sooner.
With Daisy's 51 GMC my Kustom and a unfinished 32 in the garage maybe I am taking on to much. But you can never have too many toys can you [IMG] [IMG]

    why yes they are..lol

i like the 55 better my self , but its what you want that matters,,both look like solid builders..good luck..

  27. braddah, I would go w/ the 51...the curved corners and "old skewl" look is more appealing to me.

since we're voting and giving requested opinions, i'd go with the later one just because daisy has the pink one and one of each body style is about enough for one household. if you stay with the earlier one you'll always be comparing the two every time you see them. so will everyone else who knows you.

other than that either one can be killer if done right. tough call. glad i don't have to make the decision.
