Does anyone remember when the "Cool Rides" had small lights placed up inside the front fenders? The lights as I remember were switched on from some type of switch under the dash when you drove thru the Burger stand. This was to show off your new custom caps and tires. Can't remember what type lights were used . Any help?
Yes, i remember those in the early to mid 60's. Never seen them on the muscle cars, They usually were on the shoeboxes in my area. They usually just used 12 volt bulbs from tail lights and such. Definitely not neon.
They were the cone shaped clearance lights, like were on truck trailers. Where super cheap. You can still buy them. They don't come in all the different colors now. Red amber and blue the last I knew.
An older Friend of mine said they used to paint inside the fenderwells white in addition to the lights. Not really my thing but that's what he told me. Later Josh
Thanks Fellows. The cone lights might work. Any ideas on something that may be brighter and just as small? I also saw these lights on the firewalls that light up the chrome on the "Mill" when you drove with out a hood. What kind of lights did they use and how did they hide them? Thanks
Yep. I remember lights in the wheel wells. Usually any spare light you could get your hands on, but alot did use the truck running lights. Also did the white wheel wells on the front of my 55' Chev when I was 17. There were a lot of different colors used.
If you want to get real attention. Save your energy and money on a truely traditional powerplant not lighting. You'll get all the compliments you can handle.
LED pods will work better than incandescent. No, they're not period correct and are a bit pricey. I put them on my bike several years ago and they come in a variety of colors.
Those were the kind of lights some of the guys used whent they did this when I was in high school in the mid 60's, they also painted the wheel wells white like someone above said. It usually lasted a month or so before the next fad came along. Rod
you used to see one or two blue trailor lights underneith some cars up here. not really wheeel well lighting but more of an ambiant glow pre-neon
