An O-ring failed at my P/S pump, and it spewed fluid everywhere, including some that got on my driver's side brake. It is affecting the brake a bit- it makes some noise and now doesn't grab as well so the car pulls a little to the right under braking. Can I just clean the pads (Mid-80's GM truck style discs- the middle grade ones from NAPA) and drive it till any residue is gone, or will the pads need to be replaced?
I do this a lot to Both brakes and Clutch disc with oil on them. In fact I rince off all new brake parts with this stuff when doing a brake job. Go to Wall Mart. They have a Carburetor Cleaner in a Blue can with Red badge Called Super Tech Carburetor cleaner. It will rince all the oil compleatly out of the Pads. It's only $1.25 a can, your gonna like it. I even use it to clean out my Paint guns. It totally evaperates and leaves behind ZERO residue. It will turn your skin white and do not get it in your eyes. This is a killer cleaner. I buy it by the Case. It's also the best gl*** cleaner you can get your hands on. The Wizzard
Hell, I've had problems with pads before, and I've used a hand held belt sander to resurface the pads. Just hold it on and run the sander until you've run the desired amount off the pad. Even if the fluid soaked in, it won't have gone far. Of course, I'm probably going to be flamed for this, so I'll add the standard safety stuff. Use gloves to protect your fingers, do it in a well ventilated area and wear a respirator as the dust is asbestos and other **** like that. Or don't. However, shaving the pad will save having to replace it.
